PS2 and PS Peripheral Compatibility
« on: December 02, 2001, 04:32:58 AM »
I stumbled across this at IGN;

"Will it use existing PlayStation peripherals, like controllers and memory cards?

Yes, for the most part. While the PlayStation 2 will have its own specific controllers, memory cards and peripherals, all original PlayStation memory cards, controllers -- even the PocketStation -- will work on the PlayStation 2. This will insure 100% backward-compatibility."

Is it true that I can use my PS memory card and digital controller with the PS2?  If so, that is great news... I wouldn\'t need to fork out the $60 or so.

ummmm,

ps1 games can NOT be saved on a ps2 memory card, and vice versa

the ps1 memory card WILL work in a ps2 for ONLY saving while playing ps1 games

Well, apparently not every does/did. :)

But, I have only followed the PS2 for the last few weeks, so common knowledge from the PS2 start is not know to me.

Hmm, so if I understand you correctly, the PS memory card would only be usefull in a PS2 for transfering PS saved games and possibly saving PS games while being played on the PS2?

What about my controller question, will digital or analog (or both) controllers from the PS work glitch free on the PS2?

Thanks,
Dogkat1

BTW:  Many of my posts are done using the "hen peck with one hand while holding the baby with the other", so please do not let my horrible typing lead you to believe that I am just a child... my age is 29 (though my maturity is somewhere in the teens!)

no worries, we\'re all children in the eyes of nintendo.

when playing ps1 games on a ps2, you can ONLY save using a ps1 memory card

yes, yer ps1 controller will work fine and dandy for both ps2 and ps1 games while playing on the ps2.  the only difference between the dual shock 1 and dual shock 2 controllers is pressure sensitive buttons, but i dont think very many PS2 games even take advantage of this feature

And the games that do take advantage of this feature so far (pressure sensitive buttons) you dont actually have to use that. Its only an option, so you will be ok.
You will just need a PS2 memory card
