Sony Japan preparing for the Xbox launch: PS2+Modem+HDD

According to rumblings out of Tokyo this morning, Sony is said to be evaluating the possibility of releasing a PlayStation 2 \'networking bundle\' sometime next year. Thereby, the system would be sold with the hard-drive and Ethernet peripherals built-in for 39,800 yen ($321), approximately 10,000 yen ($81) higher than its current retail price. Insiders suggest the move would allow Sony to adequately fight Microsoft\'s Xbox and bolster the broadband ready PlayStation 2 userbase in Japan. Unfortunately, Sony representatives refused to comment on the news this morning.

I agree with nate, I think sony should have included 4 ports..even on the ps1..although I dont have a prob buying 1 or 2 multi-taps.

Yes I remember, and NO I don\'t care about my Xbox hating days. Go ahead and bring up my contradicting statements. I don\'t care what you do. I\'m very happy with my purchuse of my Xbox, and I am looking forward to the rest of its 2001 lineup as well as its 2002 and beyond.  Anyways, thanks for your concern, but those days are behind me, and if you can\'t accept that, then I dunno what to tell you.  But, the past is the past, you continue to bring it up? Why whats the point? People are allowed to change their minds. Like, college, take that for example. You say your going to one college, and you find out another one offers something better. Yes and SOny should of sold it at $399.00 cuase thats what it would have had to sell at to keep SOny form losing way too much money early on

MS is not expected to make a profit if at all on the XBox this generation. The amount of Xbox\'s that need to seel and software is an extremly tough goal for MS and they will be lucky to hit it.

Sony on the other hand is already making a profit will profit even more from muti taps and other periphials while possible giving away HD?Ethernet adapters with ones willingness to sign on to thier network for a year.

Sony will/has re-invested alot of there profits just like they did from the PSX to the PS2.
If you haven\'t noticed but SOny has already invested large amounts of money into game developing for the PS2 and Component developemnt for the PS3

So why you whine about spending some money on Sonys components you completley ignore the fact that they don\'t sit around on that cash. They are pushing the industry harder then the rest with that money while planning ahaead and because of that I have no problems with Sony\'s business plan or spending a few extra buck to help feul the future of videogames

What you said about the 399 price for PS2, well, that was the rumored price at first. I  "heard" rumors about that price at a couple of other msg boards. And, well, they were saying that PS2 will have still been a hot item at that price. One other thing, they said, that, Sony would lose ALOT of money, if they eventually sold the console at close to 400 bucks. IMO, the it could have been 200 for a PS2, but, I guess SONY did the right thing on making the price 300.   And yes, I agree Ddaryl, Sony does tend to push the industry alot. With all the money invested into the PS2 by now, I am sure Sony is pretty happy with its monster sucess.  MS is expected to lose 2 billion on Xbox I guess, thats what Meryll Lynch or some fininacal company said.

I\'m not rich ethier, I just balance my money, and since none of the reminder of the PS2 line up doesn\'t impress me, I\'m glad I got a console besides PS2 to play kickass games on. PS2 rawks, Xbox Rawks.
