Just finished MGS2 (minor spoilers)...
« on: December 10, 2001, 05:33:23 PM »
This is the first MGS game I\'ve played, besides the MGS demo on a PC. I read the whole story plot of MGS1 before I started playing, so I was pretty much up to speed.

While I think that story of MGS2 was good, I can\'t help but feel that the way it\'s told (especially towards the end) leaves a bit to be desired. I felt like the whole ending was a bit... clumsy. It didn\'t really left much of an impression on me, and I found that to be disappointing, as the whole game was so perfectly executed in it\'s combination of action, thinking and visual presentation, that I really wanted to love the ending. But somehow, I couldn\'t. Maybe it\'s cheesy videos of american congress and statue of liberty, maybe it\'s the way they spoke out words about their \'romance\' and child, I don\'t know. I just know that I felt it should have been better. As it is, it seemed a little bit as if a bad, untalented writer tried really, really hard to write a good story, ultimately reaching out of his own capabilities.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but the game delivered in just about every way except for the final few minutes. Maybe even those few minutes work well in the boundaries of the comic book world that the game takes place in? I\'ll think about that, but so far this is how I felt.

Well you entitled to your opinion, but most people just don\'t understand the ending therfore say WTF was that all about. Play the game over again the more times you play thru it, the better you will understand the ending. Also, as for your comment about the writer trying to write a good story. Again, your entitled to your opinion, but I\'m sorry, Hideo Kojima is a dam* genious. You read the MGS2 final hours special on gamespot? if not here\'s the link http://gamespot.com/gamespot/features/video/btg_mgs2/index.html  anyways he leaves the door open that he will come back and direct a sequal.

P.S.- this should be in the MGS2 forum.

Whoops, yeah, I see there\'s an MGS2 forum... OK, I guess the mods will move it. It\'s not that I didn\'t understood the story or thought that strory is bad per se, although it has some strange points, read this gamespotting article to see what I mean:
 http://gamespot.com/gamespot/features/all/gamespotting/113001/p6_01.html

I simply didn\'t liked the way the ending was laid out. It seemed like it tried to convey some higher poetic message, yet it turned out to be a bit cheesy.

Yes, I\'ve read the final hours and I\'ve been following this game for a long time and was very impressed with all the technology and creativity they\'ve pulled out at the end.

And yes, I will play it again, and I\'m looking forward to it, as I\'ve found now how many secrets there are to it, plus it has gameplay like no game before.

Oh man I could rip this apart!!!!!!!!! I\'m not going to though. Hey you belive what Ajri Majri whatever says if you want to. Me I think he\'s a sleeper myself. And it seems like to me your basing everything you say in your first post off this dimwits article. Man MGS2 is a complex and hard to understand game for the average person, thats what makes it SO FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it\'s just that I agree with some of his observations, plus I have some issues with it of my own.

kthx... but I\'ve read a *lot* of classic Russian and European literature (I was born in south Europe), so I found myself fit to judge the story for a game, no matter how complex or convoluted it may be.

mmmk Thats fair, but still IMO your missing the point. And I feel the guy that wrote that article is one of those guys searching for things that are answered. In his article he makes a few arguble comments that may have some truth to them, but from what I read he\'s just not understanding the whole story. I;m not going to explain it for I could write a book about it, it\'s just to hard to explain, but half of what he says is already answered. I guess Kojima should of spelled it out for him   TO BE COTINUED.......
