You have a point.. But remember, there are certain limits. By installing a m0d chip, you would be able to do illegal things.

A perfect example of this would be a car. Say you buy a shiny new Honda Civic. You think it\'s a slow ass mofo, so you "m0d" the hell out of it.. You have everything you need to make it do what you want to do. But then again, there are some laws saying that you can\'t have this certain thing on it, etc. because it\'s not street legal. So what can you do with it? Nothing. Leave it in your garage and drive it at 3am in the morning so hopefully no cops will notice.

Um, am I kinda out of the loop here, or am I right in thinking that 90% of the things you can do with a mod chip can also be done on a GameShark Or Xploder? At least in the DC and PSX\'s case, I know you can use these cheat devices to override territorial lockouts and play backups and such. Sure it\'s a pain in the azz to keep switching disks, but it still works right?

I never mod my consoles so this whole debate really dosen\'t affect me in any way, but I have to agree with RichG. Even tho the mass majority of people WOULD use it for pirating, it is YOUR private property once you lay down that 300 bucks for it. You should be able to do whatever the fukk you want with it.

Some of you are trying to argue this as if Sony is coming after you for moding your console. Do you honestly believe Sony is not within their rights to go after the chip makers? Get real

Get real people, there are LAWS on this planet. There are certain rights, i.e. cars need to fullfill certain aspects to be street legal. If it is not, these laws can permit the car maker from selling this car.

It\'s the same with the MOD chips: while Sony might not go after you for "editing" your PS2, they have every right to go after people who cell MOD-Chips if it\'s against their copyright laws or whatever. And unfortunately, MOD-Chips are generally used for pirating. You might not use it in that purpose, but enough do to give Sony a good reason for putting an end to it.

BTW: Sony did enable or official speaking "let some backdoor" in the Japanese version of the PS2 to play all region DVD-Videos. The result was that Sony got into big trouble with the movie industry in America for that.

Yes, if it\'s against their copyright laws. However since when did a ******* go against copyright laws. Its a chip! The user may use it to play copies but thats the user going against Sony\'s copyright laws not the chip.

The only way your statement would be true is if the code borrowed from coding inside the PS2 but thats never happened in any chip.

So *******s may be used for piracy, infact they may mainly be used for piracy but that has nothing to do with the chip developers who develop a chip for playing import originals.
