Opinions on buying used games

I went to Blockbuster last night and was suprised to see MG Solid 2 there for sale at 29.99.  It was of course previously played, but I thought what the heck, this is a savings of $20.

The disk was dirty when removed from packaging, so I cleaned it.  The disk does have quite a few minor scratches, but I have played for an hour without any strange behavior.

I have a month to take it back if there are probs.

1) How sensitive is the PS2 to scratched disks?  Do the scratches need to be deep to cause probs?

2) Opinions on buying used?  I saw TM:B for 19.99... really not a bad selection and I can save from 10-30 per game so I was fairly happy.

why not save money?

if someone "is" gonna go wrong, it would most definately happen in the 1st 30 days

I don’t see a problem in principle as I do it with N64 and PSX games but Im not going to with my ps2 coz there DVD and none is as particular as I am with my disks none borrows them and there kept spotless.

I say what the hell, save some money. You do get to take it back if theres anything wrong with them, and within the first 30 days, you should of beaten the game already. That would be your search for defects.. if none them its a keeper.

Or you could take it back after you beat it and tell them its scratched, and you want your money back.

I don\'t have a problem with buying used games...but I hardly ever do...cuz I like3 my games in imaculate condition.

I dont see the problem in buying used games.To be honest as long as they work whats the problem.The only Ps2 Game I have brought new was GT3 for the jap machine and only paid 45 pound for this at time(won it on ebay) because it was 90 pound everywhere else new.(May 2001)

I have 10 Japanese ps2 games all used Except GT3
and 4 UK Ps2 games.(Used)
which at full price at say 40 pound each your talking 560 pound.
Where as I have paid less than 300 pounds.

Money Better in my pocket. But some people prefer New.(But thats up to them)
As long as its Guaranted working I will keep buying used.
There is one problem with this way of getting games you will nearly always have to wait  to get a game your after.If its just been released.

Used games aren\'t so bad IMO. I have purchased a few and traded in my share also. There\'s this neat little gadget(I forget the auctual name of it) that sands down the top layer of scratched disk. I had an original PSX game that was so severly scratched it wouldn\'t load at all. My cuz has this gadget and we popped it in, it did it\'s magic, and now it looks and plays as if it were brand new. So IMO if you are into used games, and worry about them not performing right splurge and get this cool trinket.
Next time I talk to my cuz I\'ll find out the name of it so I know.

Used games: They rule. They work well and get them for cheap. Nothing wrong with that. It\'s just that you have to wait a while till the games are old and when everyone is done saying I beat it and you\'ve been waiting that whole time.

I prefer to buy new, the feeling of unwrapping an immaculate disk the first time, glistening in the dim lights of my basement .

However, I do tend to buy used games when I\'m looking for rare stuff.... My old nintendo and genesis have their libraries of used games... stuff like the 52 in ones....

I always buy new. Im fussy about my discs.

Theres nothing wrong in buying second hand to save some money though.

I have found that the PS2, unless it is a really deadly and deep, doesnt pick up scratches that bad.  My Devil May Cry disc looks beat to hell but I still dont get any freezing or things like that.  The only thing I find is if there are fingerprints the game might not start.
