Post your thoughts about why the PS2 dominates so hard even though ..................

GC and X-box is released.

I have read on several places over internet that the PS2 has not been affected much (sales) even though GC and x-box has arrived.
Why is this, what makes the PS2 so damn attractive?!? It sells a couple of hundred thousend consoles each week!!! It sells more than GC and X-box even though they are the new ones.
I think the PS2 will sell very very much this cristmas but WHY? What is it about the PS2 that makes it so damn attractive??

Well PS2 Price cuts

the Launch of metal Gear Solid 2 and the soon to be world wide launch of final Fantasy 10.

a clear run to Xmas in PAL\'s ville

and the fact that i have many non-owning PS2 friends who are holding off till the PAL launch of FF10, before getting a PS2.

If FFX is not their Bag Baby ...then they are waitting for the PAL launch of the Xbox and NGC for the PS2 Price to drop even more.

because Sony has proven themselves with the PSX

nintendo is STILL aiming at the wrong frickin market, and the XBOX doesnt bring enough to the table*

IMO, sony has been well established with the ps2 for a year now and plenty of success under their belt with ps1. Then the fact that the games for the playstations cateer(sp) to the people who have the money to spend. Face it, even spoiled kids cant have everything, hence the flaw in nintendo\'s kiddy marketing plan.

Because the PS2 has some big well knowen games, GT3, MGS2, GTA3, FFX, just to name a few, and also i think that if you was to ask joe-public what the Xbox was they wouldn\'t be able to tell you, i am interested to see what the sales are like in a year of the ps2 and the Xbox and even the GC, i think they will even out abit more, you have just got to give the other consoles the time the ps2 has had.
Also what sony was cleaver in doing was that everyone knew the name playstation, so as soon as you say Playstation2 you are going to know what it is, but where nintendo had the N64 they have know got to market a new named console, which takes time.

PS2 is established, and the xbox doesn\'t have enough units on the shelf.  The xbox is selling every unit it ships (more or less).  People want a console so they get a PS2 (if they were looking for an xbox and couldn\'t find one or if they were looking for a PS2).

Also I think the market is shifting towards an older demographic making it a 2 horse race.  Fair or not Nintendo is getting a fisher price label--it\'s a powerful console that attracts games with cute, brightly coloured characters.  The exceptions of this rule do not outweigh the norm.  Nintendo will survive on this demographic though and hopefully it will broaden its marekting scope next time.

I fully expect PS2 to out sell xbox for the first year at least.  After that it\'s anyone\'s guess, but I wouldn\'t be surprised if the xbox starts gaining ground--especially if/when the blizzard and ID games come out (not to mention Halo2 and Ego).  That being said, I also wouldn\'t be surprised if in a year\'s time the xbox becomes a hopeless second and Sony repeats its dominance for a second generation.  Who knows.

People want access to a huge library of games.

Because Sony ownz.

Its the games.. GT3, GTA3, MGS2, J&D, BGDA aso.

And I guess people trust the Sony/PlayStation brand

Btw, I have heard rumors that Sony will finally cut the price in the US in Jan/Feb.. (Dont quote me on that)

I don\'t buy that library of games reason.  People are not buying the PS2 now becasue of TTT or Ridge Racer.  They are buying it because of GTA3, and MGS2.  No one cares what was released a year ago.

The fact that two major consoles launched at the same, fighting for the spotlight may be a factor. There\'s definitely some overlap as we can see here on this forum and there are only so many cutting-edge gamers with the money and desire to have both new consoles.

Looking at the online auctions last week, both GC and xbox were selling at or very near retail value. Any claims the demand for either console is anywhere near the feeding frenzy that went on for months after PS2 launched is just wishful thinking.

The large library of games should not be underestimated. If "no one cares about last years games" please explain why Sony keeps releasing Greatest Hits titles. Number of games and their price have a major influence on console choice.

this will change in the next coming years, when xbox starts to flex its muscle and GC will show some of its new stuff.

But nintendo is making the same damn mistakes over and over again, they opted for shorter and cheaper games for the younger market and refused square once again.

Knowing the source I\'d first have to check if the information is anywhere near true before I would want explain anything. In the months prior to the release of GT3 it just so happens a two year old GT2 was #1 on the sales charts, ahead of all new releases for all systems, including handhelds. Now why don\'t you explain to me how all those people qualify as ‘no one\'.

my top 3 answers for each system:

GC
#1-  Mini CD Player
#2 -The games are MUCH better on the PS2
#3 -PS2 has a better controller
Xbox
#1-Microsoft.......the system might crash and give you a Blue Screen
#2- Pay $30 to activate the DVD player when the PS2\'s is already activated
#3-Games are better on the PS2
