Initial Wipeout impressions
« on: December 14, 2001, 01:12:55 AM »
I\'m just having a break from it because my eyes are starting to bleed.

I absolutly love the Wipeout series. I played 2097 to death. The only games I\'ve probably spent more time on are Gran Turismo and FF7. I also thrashed Wipeout 3 although I prefered 2097. I never played the first one. It was before I had a PSX. On to Fusion now.

At first it seemed a bit bland but it is really starting to grow on me now. Everything runs smooth, feels good and looks good.
It seemed frustrating at first but now I\'m starting to get back to my old form and I\'m really starting to enjoy it. You just have to give it time.
The tracks seem nicely designed. I havent played many but they seem cool. There are seven worlds (I dont now if there are any hidden ones) and it seems like there is 3 variations of each. Each different variation in the worlds is quite good, which means that each one is quite a lot different.
The tracks are quite wide which is quite good because that means less crashing and more speed which is what the Wipeout series is all about. I have only noticed slowdown once, and then I\'m not sure if it was my imagination or not.

Thats all for now. I\'ll say more when I\'ve played it on the faster levels because thats when Wipeout gets really cool.
See ya

--edit--
Whoops I forgot to mention the sound. I always turn the music off for Wipeout so I wont comment on it.
The sound effects are really cool. The explosions and when you launch the weapons sound really good, so do the ships.
Plus its got Dolby Digital Pro Logic so you can hear the Quakes coming up behind you which is cool cause you know your about to get hammered and there is nothing you can do about it

Thanks for your opinions!

Seems weird the Auz getting a game before everyone else. Esp UK which normally gets them before when the PAL release is out. Might be worth importing. Does PAL Auz work on PAL UK ?

Yes, it works fine.

I think developers are realising that there is a very large market in Australia, and I think they may begin releasing more things here first as a way to \'test\' the consumer.

They will test things like advertising stratiges and such, as I way to get the full potential out of things when its released the other two markets, Europe and USA.

Yeah Australia shouldn\'t be ignored at all. I don\'t know why they just release the games with the Europe market.

After playing the game for quite awhile now I am quite dissapointed. It started to grow on me, but didnt go on from there. I can\'t pinpoint what it is about it that I dont really like, I think I\'m just a bit bored of the Wipeout series. I thought that that wasnt possible.
One really annoying thing that I really didnt like was the amount of weapons. There is heaps. Too many. You can no longer just concentrate on getting a perfect lap because that seems to be nearly impossible because you are coninually getting harressed by ememy fire. I think it\'s good the enemies having weapons, but there is just too much of it.
It seems like you get hit by a quake about twice every lap, and then theres all the missles and others beig fired at you.

But other than that, I think I\'m just bored of the series

Thanks StupidMop. Unfortunately, it isn\'t quite out here in Europe, but I\'ll be getting it as soon as it comes out. Hopefully we will not have to wait until February, that would really suck.

Something really suprised me though; I\'ve been playing the demo since it\'s out and can\'t get enough of it! Maybe it\'s the online feature that makes it so attractive (and the sense of speed), but I would have thought that the other non-wipeout-fans would be the ones dissapointed with the game, because it is quite hard and challenging. But hearing it from a "probably" big fan of the series does suprise me.

Well, anyway, the game is still my most anticipated (last one was GT3), so I can\'t wait til it is out overhere! :)

When you say a "probably" big fan, I mean that. I\'ve played countless hours on Wipeout games, long into the early hours of the night until my eyes bleed.
I think I was either expecting too much or I\'ve just played too much Wipeout

I say what do you expect? They made the tracks wider. I would naturally assume that they put more enfisis onto something elts. I welcome hte weapons challange. I do not wish to start an argument but it sounds like it is just to challanging for you. How can you complain about thier being to many weapons? I remmember in 2097 that the computer never used weapons. Come to think of it, I don\'t remmember the computers useing weapons that much at all. I am glad to see that they finally let the computers use weapons as much as the human player. The only thing about the weapons that would bother me is if the computer is only firing at you. And I think it is not just waiting for you. Unless you were in first. Then they would aim at you more lickly. Thats what I would do. And what they problably set the AI to do as well.

No, it wasnt too hard for me. I\'m a Wipeout freak. I came first extrememly often. Even in tracks I didnt know.
It was just annoying, your trying to get a perfect lap with was cool in the first one but then you get hit by a quake from behind. There is no avioding it. The weapons didnt really effect my placing, it was just annoying getting hit so often

And I\'m not just saying I\'m good at Wipeout, I am. I can admit when I\'m not very good at a game, eg: Madden

Best lap times? I just wanted to come in first place. Doesn\'t it have a time attack option like in the 2nd Wipeout?
