Need a new PS2?
« on: December 17, 2001, 12:28:26 PM »
Just go Dec. 26 and return it.  My friend, who works at K-mart says that they take anything back as long as its a fair trade.  Just take your broken or old PS2 in(w/ box) and say that your Grandma got it for you for Christmas but doesn\'t work.  Even though my PS2 isn\'t broken I\'m doing it just to have the newer model.

This practice is wrong, but to tell you the truth I bet if K-Mart sends it back to Sony they don\'t charge them anything.

What\'s wrong is putting a 90-day warranty on a poorly made taiwanese plastic rectangle.  What\'s wrong is sending customers refurbished units instead of new ones when they have a problem.  Not to mention lying to them on the phone.

You can ask me, Rich, unknown, and half the other people on this board who\'ve been screwed.

Yeah I agree with Rob completly.

Sony have been a bunch of arseholes. Far too many consoles have had problems for it too be normal. They have basically been rushing consoles out or something (you remember the christmas rush last year) and gave us all shabby stuff. It seems ok for the people who paid £200 on a new one now but what about Sony loyal customers who paid £400 from day one and put up with preorders and stuff. Just goes to show that Sony don\'t give a flying ****.

I say if Walmart or K-mart or whatever is going to do this and your console is playing up then go for it. Just a shame the shops in England aren\'t as good.

You are right that it\'s wrong for us to do this to Wal-Mart/K-mart whoever.  We really have no options, but when the return %s get back to Sony they will start to figure out "hey we need to make a better PS2 b/c our return rates are outrageous".

And cross your fingers buddy that you\'re not next.  It\'s beginning to be an initiation around here.

I all for this. I have a faulty Ps2. Although it doesnt seem to have any problems with anything else except this one certain dvd. Ive tried everything you can possibly think of to try and fix the problem... nothing worked. I still have the same Ps2 and same dvd. I think its time to take this son of a ***** back.
The only thing Im trippin on is, will they run numbers? Or will they just strait up take it backwithout checking anything except to see if everything is in the box?
I will seriously do it, I havent fixed my Ps2 since my problem evolved.. and I sure as hell wasnt going to send it back to sony for one hundred bucks.

Not a bad idea, but there is always the extended warranty. I purchased my PS2 at launch. And I bought the the NO QUESTIONS ASKED return warranty. It cost me 30 bucks, but saved me a repair bill. Not 6 months after I bought it, the CD laser went out on it. It would play DVD\'s and DVD games, but not PS2 format games. So I just took it back and got a brand new one. And if you do return one look at the date code. It will let you know if it\'s a newer model. Although the version will tell you that also.

I\'m going to have to try this out, take my old ps2 in and get a new one, oh and sony pisses me off, over  the phone they said I would have to send it in if I want it to ever be fixed, but I bought a cheap laser eye cleaner and now it works fine, they almost screwed me over

Where is the date code located?  And aren\'t they all model number SCPH-30001?
