New Final Fantasy XI info. . .

IGN\'s Official News Coverage
Quote

Well, that clears things up a bit. After a considerable amount of vacillation and general lack of clarity, the key question regarding Final Fantasy XI is solved. According to a recent issue of Famitsu Weekly, the next game in Square\'s most lucrative franchise is indeed the first Massively Multiplayer Online RPG to grace a videogame console (or Computer Entertainment System, if you will), an online world where all manner of players may congregate, chat, and do battle with the forces of evil. This sets it apart from earlier efforts like Phantasy Star Online, where only a few players could coexist in a game at once. FFXI\'s servers will house thousands of different players at a time, and a massive game world besides.

Mithra
The Mithra are an elvish race that inhabit a small corner of the Federation of Windurst. They\'re opposed to the development of science and technology, preferring to remain closer to nature and rely on their innate physical abilities. They have tails and large pointed ears, as well as tails. Male Mithra are extremely rare, and only females ever venture into the outside world.

Galka
They\'re the tall, broad-shouldered creatures we\'ve seen in earlier screenshots. As their build suggests, they\'re powerful and durable, which suits them well to the industrial life of the Bastok Republic. Galka, curiously enough, don\'t pass on many common physical traits to their descendants -- instead, they all look fairly different

All the new information. Two new classes and general information.

Ummm, I hope they plan on puttin a lil more spit an polish into those graphics. As it is now, even FFX looks worlds better than this. Even PSO and Everquest look better than THOSE screens.

It also sucks to see that it appears like they\'re gonna stick to the standard turn based combat. I hope this isn\'t the case since IMO, Realtime combat is the way to go for an online RPG. Nothing sucks worse than havin nothing to do but jus sit there an chat while you wait for your next turn. Combat is supposed to be chaotic and exciting, not slow and calculating.

I also heard in another thread that you have to have both the harddrive and ethernet adaptor to play... is it true? The HDD is no problem, I can always save up and get one of those, but I don\'t have broadband in my area.. and probably wont for the next 10 years or so. FFO had better NOT be broadband only.

I\'m still very excited about this game. It\'s got a lot of potential, I just hope Square can make it live up to that potential.

After looking at some more picks from IGN, I gotta say I\'m a bit more excited. Those screens are probly just VERY bad captures. (Looks like they were blown up from a smaller pic due to the Pixleization on names an other non-polygon areas which should be smooth).

The only real critiqe I have right now is that communication takes place in a chatlog. I think it\'s a mistake, and draws attention away from what\'s going on in the game. Not to mention that it\'s small, and in large groups I\'d bet that it scrolls by pretty damn fast making it very easy to miss critical commands and information.
Also, since that\'s the ONLY place text shows up.. its easy for no-life jerkoffs in town to write out god awfuly long lines of racist comments or garbage that fill up the log over and over and over again so that other people can\'t talk to each other. Please Square, be smart enough to put an "Ignore user" option into FFOnline!
