Saw this movie last night, and it just freakin\' rocks...Fellowship of the Ring as a novel has a lot of exposition in it, but the movie is just jam packed with action. The effects are great, there is one waterfall that looked bad, but otherwise you are convinced that the world is populated with orcs, elves, and hobbits. The sets look for the most part exactly as you would have imagined from reading the books...also, though, it\'s not a must that you have read the books to see the movie. My roommate saw it with me, and he hadn\'t read a single page of Tolkien; he enjoyed it just as much, if not a little more, than I did...If you want to see how to spend $100 million on making a movie, and not have it suck, then go see this movie NOW!
And as far as anyone being concerned with my comment on eliminating some of the exposition that the book had, don\'t fret...the movie just zips along some things like Bilbo\'s birthday and the village of Brie (sp?)...everything truly pertinent is in the movie. The Ringwraiths are also just evil incarnate...I will see this movie again in the theater, and I never do that. I would already buy tickets to The Two Towers if they would let me...
