Xbox STRIDENT:
« on: December 22, 2001, 01:53:33 AM »
Thanks to http://www.teamxbox.com for the info.   Wow this sounds like a great game. Must have!  :D

Korean developer Phantagram currently has two titles in the oven for the Xbox console from Microsoft. Today we take a look at one of them, Strident, which is without doubt one of the Xbox’s most anticipated 2002 titles.

Strident is a mission based action game set in a futuristic world, devastated by long years at war. Hardly any military organizations still have the proper technology and strength to keep the planet organized. This is where the player comes in, through the form of a super powered female agent, without a single drop of memory except for the fact that she is codenamed “Strident”. Her life is now threatened by the people around her, in which she considered as being friends. When it comes to combat, she is unchallenged, but therefore not the brightest light on the Christmas tree. The only way to survive will be to use her utterly amazing battle abilities and to trust nobody. The main goal for this super female power-house will be to find out her purpose of existence on the planet.

Strident excels in martial arts and marksmanship. Without weapons, she can climb walls, maneuver objects and use opponents as shields. When equipped with a one handed firearm her movement is much more limited, and as you may have guessed, when using a two handed weapon her firepower is much greater, but her ability to move is inadequate. Which styles the player chooses is up to him. Enemies are also varied; players will encounter cyborgs, super soldiers, mutants, robots, waking tanks, flying fortresses and many more unique military forces. The AI actions are unpredictable as each of the enemies features his very own skills, behaviors, and equipments.

In Strident, players are gifted the opportunity of using their visually sticking environment, counting objects, in order to hammer themselves throughout the game’s missions. If you have watched The Matrix, staring Keanu Reeves, then you should have a bit of an idea how this game will play out. The player can jump, shoot and kick himself past enemies via the interesting items in the backdrop. Hopefully the developers can pull this startling feature off.

Strident features 20 missions, ranging from about 20 to 30 minutes in length. Task modes include infiltration, sabotage, espionage, platoon-scale combat, escort and frontal assault, where as your mission types are aerial combat, ground combat and undersea operations. No two assignments should play out the same way, as enemies will react differently, and the level routes are varied. The style in which you complete each mission is entirely up to you, freedom is a large factor in this game if you have not noticed.

Strident uses the third version of Phantagram’s very own game engine, named Blue Engine, which was used for Kingdom Under Fire, released a while ago. Specifics on the engine won’t be released until the completion of Strident. In terms of visuals, the game already looks dazzling. Not much has been made available, but the few screens that we do have are enough to make jaws drop.

I\'m dissapointed. The screens look gorgeous and all, and it sounds like it\'ll be a kick ass game. It\'s jus from the name "Strident" I was kinda hopin it\'d be a Strider sequel. Wasn\'t there one that was supposed to be in the works this generation??

If I ever get an Xbox I\'ll be sure to take a closer look at this title.

Amen to that...

Pstwo, Strider was a classic adventure / action game by Capcom back in the good ole\' days . I recommend goin\' and getting a copy of it for a Genesis and if you can\'t do that, then pick up STrider 2 for the PSone ...it comes with a copy of Strider (the original).

 Oh the good old days!! I thought it was from the Genesis.  I had about 73 Genesis games at that time. I spent over $4,000 on that system and I sold everything for only $250.  I thought that system was the best in the world untl the Playstation came out.  I still can\'t picture Strider yet.  I need a screen shot. Was that a Ninja game or sometiing?   :D

Plain and simple: Strider is the coolest hero of videogames.

To further my point on the greatness of Strider , (I promise, this is the last time!) look at this image.

It just doesn\'t get any cooler than that.
