Ring type scratches???

Never leave the disk in the tray when you turn off the PS2.  When the PS2 powers up, the laser read head moves into the space where the disk sits, and if there\'s a disk there, it could create a scratch.  I heard this explanation from someone else on this forum and it makes sense to me.  I got a scratch on one of my disks, and my PS2 is always kept very stationary, so this is really the only explanation for my situation.

Also never move the PS2\'s position when there is a game in the tray. It can get disalligned and when you start it up will spin on the edges thus creating a scratch.

well luckee, coredweller and Vapor Snake has your answer and i have tested it and proved it at my home. I was tired of hearing this from people that PS2 makes circular scratches on the data surface of CD\'s and DVD\'s. Reality is that PS2 makes that ONLY if you leave your CD/DVD in your PS2 and then turn the system completely off and then on. I have tried this with my boring Summer underground DVD and bingo it\'s there. Remember to put your PS2 in stand by mode if you leave for a break and also want to leave your CD/DVD in your PS2 and take it out when shutting it off. Horizontal or Vertical there is no problem with my PS2, by the way i\'m using mine vertically and also horizontally, it depends on space you know. Oh yeah i rented Jak and Daxter from blockbuster yesterday and guess what it has those nasty circular scratches on it LOL.

Dont know what truth is to that joespha, but it certainly cant hurt doing that. Usually I do just turn it off unless I plan on playing anywhere within the next 30minutes, then I just do the stand-by thing.

Its a fault in the hardware if the PS2 scatches CDs / DVDs on powerdown of the console or if you leave discs inside the machine. This may be the problem and by avoiding these habbits you may save yourself some scratched discs but the machine shouldn\'t do this in the first place. Therefore if your PS2 is scratching discs you may want to look into using your warrentee.
