How in the HELL do YOU know what it feels like to be black? Turn on the t.v. everyday and you\'re made to feel as if your black skin is more of a curse than something special. You\'re made to feel as if your kinky hair, your thick lips and your broad nose is not the beautiful ideal.

This is a truly ignorant post, since when has BET held public lynchings where white males were castrated and then burned alive? BET is, has or never been like the KKK or skinheads.

They said it on MTV. When they were going through their whole 20th anniversary and such they talked about their history and how Michael Jackson\'s "Thriller" was the first video by an African American artist to be shown on the channel.

So... is there going to be a response or what?

I haven\'t seen a logical argument against what Gohan has said yet...
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

There\'s nothing wrong or illegal about BET.  There\'s also nothing wrong or illegal in starting up a "WET".  But you can bet all the left-wing NAACP wackos would come out of the woodwork and protest to high heaven over it.

The one thing I wish people would get over is this "dash American" trend.  "African-American", "Asian American", "Latin American".  Unless you were born in Africa and moved to American you\'re not "African-American."  And if you weren\'t born in Asia and moved to America, you\'re not "Asian-American", you\'re just American.

Personally I prefer the term African American, who are you or anyone else that they feel they have the right to define what others wish to call themselves? Although I\'m not originally from Africa, my ancestors were and I have the right to identify with them if I so choose. That is part of my blood and heritage and I\'m proud of it. The idea that others feel that they can control who you are is part of the problem that has it\'s roots in racism.

Yes you are right, some NAACP members probably would protest a WET, but I don\'t think that is right either. Every person has the God-given right to define himself on his own terms, it\'s what being human is all about. I would not stop anyone from expressing love or hatred toward anyone, myself included, as long as it doesn\'t affect my life or health but at the same time don\'t hinder me from doing likewise.

The reason I don\'t like "African-American" or any other "dashAmerican" name is b/c those words already have a meaning and they are contrary to the way you would use them.  "African-American" is a person who became an American citizen not by birth in the United States, but by immigration from Africa.

If you want to call yourself the son of Jihad or whatever else fine, but the words that are being used already have a definition and are being used incorrectly.  It\'s the same thing as calling a lawnmower a tree.

To be honest, shouldn\'t they be reffered to as, "American-Africans" ?  I mean how many blacks do you see born in Africa and move to the US?  About 98.78696% of them are born in the US so they are not really African.

Your right about the WET thing, BUT..most everything is WET tv. Just think about mostof the shows on the air now.

I also agree with the 2nd part of your post. Everyone on my fathers never call themselves african americans since they were all born here. I try to stay away from the african american term as much as possible. In africa, I am hated by 100% africans..why? I not black enough, even if I was, I not african, plain and simple. True enough that I have it in my blood dating back 400+ years, but im an american, plain and simple.

However on my mothers side, they still call themselves german and polish americans, but yet were all bornin america.

There you go again, that is only your POV but you are not the one that determines how a group chooses to define themselves. There is no "correct" way that those two terms must be used together it is all a matter of choice and a majority of blacks in America wish to be called African American, when you refuse to do this in a sense you disrespect their choice. Africans that immigrate from Africa do not consider themselves African American, they consider themselves just African.

Why do you call yourself American? This country was named after Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian. This country was called something else by the original indiginous ppl that were here first. Why don\'t you call yourself that? Are you a descendant of Vespucci? Why don\'t you use the "correct" term? You call yourself an American b/c that is your choice, why can\'t others be respected by being called what they wish to be called.

You were making a comparison between the two, and what I\'m saying is that there is NO comparison. By trying to show similarities of an organisation that promotes hatred, violence and White Supremacy to a network that promotes Black culture and awareness not at the expence or detriment to other cultures is a form of ignorance b/c you have not taken the time to do the research to see just how much the two differ.

As per your other statement, if you choose not to be associated with the term African American then that\'s your right but the statement that you\'re hated by 100% of the Africans on the continent is false. Do you even know any Africans from Africa? By your statement I highly doubt it. I have very good friends from Kenya, Nigeria, Liberia and Ethiopia and they feel no such way at all (unless you\'re speaking about yourself personally and why would 100% Africans just hate you. What did you do to them personally?). You might be surprised how some of the "brothers" from the motherland actually feel about African Americans. Now it is true that some Africans do not like African Americans but that is b/c of the colonialism that permeated African society fostering ignorance and hatred of one\'s own origin, the same way that some Blacks in America refuse to associate themselves with Africa due to the ignorance and self hatred that was created as a result of slavery.

The thing that upsets me is that you really believe what you are saying.

Because they were not showing black artists they should have just forgotten about it and let bygones be bygones? Do you realize how absurd your argument is? Were they black artists not worthy of having their videos aired? Do you expect white people to notice the lack of minorities on MTV and bring it to the forefront? No.

What you are saying is that when Blacks try to showcase more minorities, they are causing more racism. When in fact they are showing an accurate portrayal of American society. I know its been said before but there are no blacks, latinos, or asians on "Friends". Maybe you have never been to New York; but where is there an area with NO minorities in New York City?

You seem to have some sort of dislike towards minorities, blacks in particular. Care to tell us why?
