God dammit, where the hell is Eternal Darkness?

On the bright side, now I\'ll be able to afford SSX Tricky.

Anyone seen Bloodrayne yet?  I think that\'s the name, that\'ll be another mature title for Gamecube...

( You might remember it from the picture of the big boobed vampire chick licking blood off a sword...  Ahh, mature gaming... )

I\'ve asked 4 or 5 times now and I might as well ask it again... What exactly is a mature game.  If someone can give me a clear definition of a mature game, other than the fact that games in general are predominantly considered as immature and just for kids, then I would be grateful.  People have been tossing around the mature and kiddy labels for ages now (myself included awhile back) and now I\'m just wondering what the hell people really think it means.  Simple question, just give me a simple answer.

At the beginning of the thread he simply meant games that have an \'M\' rating.

But games that we take to be mature are the blood splattering, life-like games.

Other gamers take mature games to mean those that are challenging mentally and require some thought.

Others take it to mean games that appeal to a mature person.

Since there\'s so many ways to take it, that\'s what makes the whole ongoing \'mature\' debate so ridiculous.  We\'ve grown lazy and taken to using the word \'mature\' rather than saying what we actually mean.

The other problem with this is it leaves the remaining games to be interpreted as \'immature\' games.

And for the record, the problem I\'ve had is that when someone complains about the N64\'s mature library, I\'ve played games on it that were \'M\' rated, games that were blood splattering and life-like, games that were challenging mentally and required some thought, many games that appeal to a mature person (me), and aside from Conker which was fun anyway, nothing that I would classify as "immature."

Anyway, I think that\'s what we mean by mature, and that\'s also the problem I have when people complain about it.

Also, in response to the person who was kind enough to post the other system\'s release lists, I think it goes to show what the holiday season really means.  All the hyped games are out and now we\'re coasting for a few months so us gamers can restock our wallets and prepare for the next wave of hits...  (For example, Eternal Darkness. ;))

And while I guess that\'s about as funny as a Microsoft system crashing, I think that\'s good news.

Star Fox needed a lot of work at E3 and it showed drastic improvement by Space World.  Rare is going to make sure that this game is a quality title.

Same with Silicon Knights.  The premise for this game has always been huge and the storyline which has only been hinted at promises to be epic and engaging.  The gameplay is all that\'s left and they\'ve already added lots of unique things to it.  The devs at SK are some of the most passionate in the world and the more work the put in, the happier us Cube gamers are going to be.

While SF:A only kind of interests me, a delay for ED is great.  To think that they were going to launch it in November but have now put an extra 4, 5, maybe 6 months of polish into it is fantastic.

About the only bad thing is the wait for the game is longer, but hell, I\'ve been a Nintendo fan for years; it\'s taught me a little patience.

Thats fair you say you see only about 3-4 good games on xbox.  I see about 2 decent games on that list for gamecube so I guess we just have different opinions about games.

In my *opinion*, game cubes games are less than admirable. I mean ive played a lot of them and im sorely dissapointed : (. Some games are great but they just dont make me want the system. Xbox has some good games coming out like gunvakyrie, jsrf, and a few others. While better than Gamecube\'s there still could be some more titles that spark some permanent intrest. All in all the only thing im luvin is my ps2. I mean i luv games like timesplitters, parapa the rapper and wipeout and i want WO:fusion really bad. Plus im still waiting for rez, stuntman, the getaway, run like hell, dropship and dead to rights too. The list goes on. Ps2 is looking good as well as xbox with some promising titles but gamecube just doesnt have the games that i want. Nintendo always says quality over quantity but im just not seeing that quality except for a few games.

Oh yeah and whatever happened to those kool looking games like .... crap i forgot the names but the ones that they showed at the first e3 that gamecube was at. like the game with the log that became alive and stuff and then one with the guy that was like a genetically engineered soldier thing. one of them were called hybrid something or...... w/e i give up !

The tree game you remember is called Too Human.  It\'s in development by Silicon Knights who have chosen to keep (very) quiet about it while promoting Eternal Darkness.  ED, by the way, runs on a "subset of the Too Human engine," according to the President of SK, Denis Dyack.  He says that in a way, ED is a glimpse as to what will be seen in Too Human.

And Hybrid something only brings to mind Hybrid Heaven which was an N64 game.  Here\'s a bit from a review I pulled up: "The gameplay is very original. Outside of battle, you run around in a Tomb Raider-like fashion, jumping over platforms and solving puzzles. When you meet an enemy, you go into battle mode."  The battles were one-on-one, turn-based combat with many throw/slam moves available after gaining enough experience.

That\'s probably not the Hybrid you\'re thinking of, though...
