buying PS2 tomorrow...need warranty advice
« on: December 27, 2001, 10:40:29 PM »
hey, i\'ve finally managed to gather together enough scratch to purchase a PS2, which I\'m going to get tomorrow as soon as the stores open.  I could either get the PS2 from Electronics Boutique, Gamestop, Best Buy, or Comp USA.  They all have the same price, so thats not a deciding factor.  What does matter is how each handles optional warrantys.  I figure I might as well spring for one with all I\'ve read about PS2 failures.  My question to you guys is what is the approximate price and coverage that each store offers on there warrantys, and how well do they honor them.  Thank you for your expedient replys.

P.S.-my first games will be GTA3, MGS2, and Madden 2002.  Does that sound like a pretty good lineup?

First off..... welcome to the forums and congradulations on your decision:)

well i dont know much about the stores but... werent all of the problems of ps2\'s with the early versions? havent they fixed most of the bugs by now?  Im not saying that urs will definetly be fine but since you are getting a newer version maybe you dont have to worry about the warrantee that much.

And for the games you have chosen:  they are all great..... well im not a big madden fan.  But if ur nto rpg\'s at all... GET FFX!!!

It kicks ass!:D

Welcome to the boards.

It\'s a Sony machine always worry about the warrentee. You want a shop which will swap out your PS2 for one they have in stock if something bad happens to it.

in my honest opinion the best warranty is EBs. why ? because if anything, and i mean ANYTHING happens to it, even if its your fault, EB will replace, not repair, but REPLACE your system for a new one on the spot, if they have it in stock. no questions ask. as for gamestop, i heard you have to send it out to their own repair place..so you have to pay for shipping and all that non-sense.

i dont know about the others. EBs warranty is $30 for 1 year and $50 for 2 years.

ah, i got it from EB last friday.  GTA3 is really fun, i\'m on staton island doing to the blow up the papparazzi boat mission now.  Madden 2002 is too hard for me, i\'ll get used to it eventually.  I\'m waiting to start MGS2 until i finish GTA3.  I can\'t wait for SOE, that looks incredible.  And BTW, i got the 30 dollar one year warranty on it.

Im pleased for you. GTA 3 is probably in my opinion the best game of 2001. I haven\'t played MGS 2 or FFX as they aren\'t out in England yet but even if they were im sure GTA 3 will live up to them.
