Richard FINALLY got a working PS2 yes WORKING PS2 in 2002.

Yeah you heard me correctly... RichG that PS2 jinx (although not as much as some of the other unfortunate souls on this board) finally got a working PS2.

The swap out I got on 31st December works.

It doesn\'t scratch discs, it plays DVDs, PS1, PS2 games etc.

Now the flashing is also gone although I still say its maybe a little noticable in Baulders Gate demo but its certainly better than the second PS2 I had and definatly better than my original one.

The only thing about this PS2 i\'ve noticed is that it takes longer to load games (but then if we compared everyone on this whole forum all our PS2s probably load slightly differently), the power button at the back is loser and finally the black loadup screen when I use RGB scart is a "light" shade of black meaning you see that black bar down the right more clearerly as it isn\'t the same colour as the actual PS2 playing screen. On my other PS2 the blacks were the same so until a game loaded you wouldn\'t notice the off screeness due to RGB geometry.

This PS2 is certainly playable and I can now finally play THPS3 and Silent Hill 2 so expect my reviews soon. Although I have a friend staying with me at the moment so I might wait until hes gone because I like to sit down on my own with games and give them a play.

I may sell the PS2 and get a new one but least I now have my options open to me.

Damn ! my 30004 version is lately making some noise. If I play
more than about an hour it starts making a \'purring\' noise. I think
I\'m pretty sure it\'s the fan. It\'s not a real problem though, yet.
The PS2 still plays my games just as good. But if it starts overheat
I might bring it in for repair, my one year warranty has passed so..
Anyway, nice to hear yours is fine RichG.

its weird that PAL and US ps2s have more overheating problem than the Japanese units which have less ventilation holes

I have encountered no problems so far with my PAL ps2, but I only have it for a week :) My first gen scph 10000 Japanese unit (The ones from the japanese launch) still works fine, i never had a problem

You too Stanzo mate.

Yeah mines a 30003 the first PS2 models. When you do a swap out with Sony they make sure you get a old model back. So unfortunatly I didn\'t swap my 30003 for a 30005 because that would have been cool. :)

Just remember to look after this one:p

I dont know what the hell is going on but Im seriously pissed off right now. My Ps2 skips DVD for no damn reason. The DVD has no scratches, and I also frequently clean the lens on my Ps2. Im thinking about switching it, but then that one might be faulty to. WTF!?!?!?!?! SONY has done it, do what you gotta do to get money eh you ****ing assholes. :rpissed:
