RichG\'s Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 (PAL) Review

Heres my review...

If any of you have played Tony Hawks 1 or 2 you will know this game is going to be great fun. From the onset Neversoft have created a very sleek looking game from both the menu systems to ingame levels. Some games can be very inaccessible but this game is definatly not, it has easy to view and easy to use menu systems and game options.

The actual game itself is typical Tony Hawks action. You may have read reviews about doing missions like beating a bully or impressing skaters but don\'t be fooled, this game is really nothing more than Tony Hawks 1 or 2 but nicer...

This said is it worth buying? Well I myself managed to unlock most of the levels within a day. A shame really because unlocking a new level in Tony Hawks 1 or 2 was normally something really exciting, it was in Tony Hawks 3 as well but seeing the majority of the levels within the first day will effect the lastability of this game greatly. Tony Hawk vetrans may argue that the lastibility of this game comes when you try to beat your own highscores, which arguably is true but unlocking the levels is one of the main highlights of this game which is over far too quickly.

So I haven\'t gone into the game much yet so here goes. You play a skater that has to accomplish different chanllenges over various levels. The levels themselves vary from skate parks to actual life minicing locations like Canada and Suburbia. The levels are even better than all the previous Hawk games. Where in Tony Hawks 2 the level design was great, this time around it feels more 3d. On the canada level for example you skate high up into the trees but if you liked you can explore the lower levels and the ground levels, whilst in Tony Hawks 2 the New York level whilst great was really very flat with different hights of ground level, it never really had this kind of explore anywhere feeling that Tony Hawks 3 does. Once challenges are complete futher levels are unlocked.

The create a skater feature really is great. I\'ve read reviews of this game that state you can get a semi resembalance to yourself using this feature and they also state that when playing online you will be very lucky to see anyone like yourself, I was spectical. However it is true. You can create a skater and then use this skater to play the actual game - like what I did. However you can use other skaters, like Tony Hawks.

The graphics and framerate are amazing in this game. If you have played the first two games it will take you a little while to get used to the speed in this game. It runs at a great speed and I have no problems with the graphics or framerate.

However even with the great create a skater feature, the nice level design, the good running speed I personally still couldn\'t get away from the feeling that this is nothing more than Tony Hawks 2 but prettier. A lot of reviewers have praised the Revert move saying it brings new depth to the game. This is true but its not that great that it deserves a paragraph of text that a lot of reviewers have gave it.

The music is the typical rock / rap combination but unlike previous Hawk games I feel this has too mcuh of the rock orientated tracks, however im sure that ill be singing along to them in no time, which is quite good considering I don\'t actually like the genre.

Tony Hawks 2 but prettier or a new game either way Tony Hawks 3 is a fun game. Fans of the series may feel that this is too much like similar games but they should still enjoy it all the same. Neversoft have done a great programming job with this game, lots of options and extras. Being on a new console I can accept that this is very close to Tony Hawks 2 but if Tony Hawks 4 doesn\'t have any more originality then I feel that the series may become like Resident Evil, been there done that. This game is definatly the best representation of the sport on any console. I feel that everyone should own it even Tony Hawks vetrans but just don\'t expect to be unlocking new levels for that long.

9 / 10.
