madden - need help with nfl rule
« on: January 06, 2002, 03:10:23 PM »
heres the deal on an important play in the last game of the year which i needed to win to win my division something happened that i havent seen before on madden.  I was on defence and i needed to stop brian greesy and the broncos from scoring in a last chance effort to win the game.

The play starts and i get good pressure on greesy and my left end reaches him just as hes passing the ball.  The ball shoots staight up and john madden - no wait- the other guy (i forget his name, you no the guy that sounds like hes constapated) anyway he shouts out "fumble" and five yards down feild my defensive takle catches it (on the fly) and runs it back a yard or two.

I was ecstatic and loved every moment of the funny phenominan but the other team challenged the play.  They were challenging wether or not it was a fumble or not (i think) and surprise surprise the ref says the ruling on the field has been overturned.  I said fair enough, then its an interception.  But no!  When play resumed i was on defence.  I said what the f*ck?

I checked the replay and it turns out that when the left end tackled the QB his head hit the ball when he was throwing it.  Now I\'m not a die hard nfl rules know it all and i dont even live in usa but i think the ruling is that if his arm is going forward its not a fumble.  Now the part where i dont have a clue.  If the ruling gets overturned, does that mean the play gets reset?  Even if it was a throw, wouldent that i still get the interception?

If any1 knows then maybey you could help me out in the ruling.

The play didnt realy matter tho cos i stoped them anyway outside of field goal range:D

lol, Your lying man.

Once a play in the game has been challenged, they WON\'T let you view the replay. (*NOTE in bold in his quote where he says he "checked" the replay which is impossible)

Nice story though.

Vapor Snake you are wrong.  Once you view the replay you cannot then challenge.  But after a challenge you CAN view the replay.

leathers-even though the "fumble" was considered a pass if it did not touch the ground then the pass would have been intercepted in which case the ball would be yours.

i thought i was robed.

Vapour, dont jump to conclusions.
The cpu challenged the play not me.  I checked the replay after the challenge to see what they are challenging about.

Man madden needs to fix their challenge for 2003 and get rid of all the gliches.

Ah yeah, you can\'t challenge after you see the replay, got them backwards. My bad.

And yes it should be an interception but if you won shouldn\'t really be a problem.

They need a flea flicker play in madden, that would rock!

Doesn\'t taste too bad. :)

Personally that story seems a bit far fetched IMO still.

"an important play in the last game of the year "

"which i needed to win to win my division"

"I was on defence and i needed to stop brian greesy and the broncos from scoring in a last chance effort to win the game."

"The ball shoots staight up" (Was it deflected? Or did Brian Griese just throw it up for grabs?)

....Sounds like peices of a Disney movie\'s script.....

well thanks for your trust vapour

And as i said i takled him just when he was throwing the ball and it was called a fumble which i thought was wierd.

And yes it was deflected because i looked on the replay and it appeard that shaun ellis (sorry bout the spelling if i got it wrong) hit the ball with his helmit and it poped up and into the hands of my DT

But you won........

I mean having a "challenge" system in the game is just way too difficult, it can\'t be flawless....
