---The Battle System

When the enemy monster comes into sight, you can push the action button set the target to the monster. The Action Command Window will open immediately and you can choose different actions, such as Manual Attack, Auto Attack, and Magic. Auto Attack allows you to continuously attack the target, until you select the Combat Release command or defeated the enemy.

Some basics about battle:

Do not hit the action button repeatedly during battle because the Action button becomes Combat Release while attacking.
When you are under attack, the action button becomes "Rescue Request", an icon will show up on your character, indicating that you want help from the surrounding companions. You will not gain any experience point when people from other parties came for the rescue. (i.e., you still gain experience points only if your team members defeated the enemies)
When the combat starts, the target is automatically locked. If you need to run away or end the battle early, you can remove the target lock by pressing the L3 button (Combat Release).
Each magic spell requires a different aria time to cast, if the character is moved or been attacked during the aria time, the magic is interrupted. The more powerful the magic the longer the aria time is.
Magic cannot be used on targets that are not approaching, each magic has its own effective distance.
There is a "Setup time" when you use an item during battles. Just like real life, you need time to prepare the items to be used. Setup time is different according to the type of item and the job level.
Sometimes you can check the strength of the monster by using the "Examine" command at the beginning of the battle.
After battles, all items will be stored in the "Booty Pool" (Party) or "Master Collection" (Alliance). You can set the distribution rules to automatically distribute the items among all party or alliance members.

The world situation keeps changing any time by the action of the players online. You can check the national flag displayed under each region name in the map. The ownership of a region is determined by who (Republic of Bastok, Kingdom of San D\'oria, or Federation of Windurst) knocked down the most monsters in the region. The 3 main regions are Bastok\'s Gustaberg, San D\'oria\'s Ronfaure and prairies of Windurst\'s Sarutabaruta.

You can select from 6 different jobs, and more jobs will become available as your job level increases. The 6 initial jobs are:

Warrior - expert of adjacent combat, and protect the weak companions. Warriors cannot use magic spells and are weak against magic attacks. Warriors can equip most of the equipment. Their job ability is Mighty Strike, which allows them to hit the enemy with critical blow every turn in the effective time.

Monk - expert of grapple combat who use the body as weapon, battle with bare hands. Monk can not equip heavy equipment due to their speed and combat nature. Hundred Punches is monk\'s job ability that have great attack power and short attack intervals.

White Mage - centers on treatment and recovery white magic. Bless from God is a their job ability that can recover HP of the allies within the range.

Black Mage - centers on offensive magic. They have powerful magic attacks, but weak against physical attacks and cannot equip a lot of equipment. Magic Swirl is Black mage\'s job ability which allows them to cast spells without consuming any MP in the effective time.

Red Mage - a new kind of mage that have both the power of White and Black Mage, they can even equip swords as weapon. However, Red Mages cannot master advanced skills of either classes of mage. Their job ability is Continuous Magic, which allows them to continuously casting magic spells within the effective time.

Thief - they can learn a large number of job abilities, and steal from the enemies during an attack. Thieves are also very quick and can evade many enemy attacks. The special ability is Complete Evasion, which allows them to evade all physical attacks within the effective time.

ACtually it reminds me of "Final Fantasy" for he old NES. All of the Job Classes were the jobs back then. Only if you take creative liberty and say the Monk who atacks with his hands is the Ninja who attacks with his hands in FF. Everyone elts is a textbook replica.
