New TV\'s Enhance Xbox Experience
« on: January 08, 2002, 11:01:54 AM »
Ahhhh Xbox TVs............hehe :D

Here\'s the link:
http://www.xboxgamers.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1010453183,88491,

Under exclusive arrangement with Microsoft, we\'re also planning an exclusive lineup of RCA televisions optimized to offer enhanced video performance just for the Microsoft Xbox gaming system, one of the holiday season\'s hottest gifts. And a new form of write-once Digital Memory Card is coming from Thomson\'s Technicolor brand, to free up computers jammed with hundreds of digital photos and mp3 files," O\'Hara explained.

A new series of RCA televisions designed to enhance the playing experience on the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft is being developed by Thomson. The new line of analog TV sets incorporate a unique Xbox component video connection port that enables the TV to deliver dramatically improved picture detail for Xbox functions. This new connection takes advantage of the Xbox system’s ability to output component video signal levels, and feeds the signal through a single connection cable.

More than 15 different RCA TV models will feature the new Xbox connection in 2002, under a two-year exclusive agreement with Microsoft.

Yes, I doubt it\'ll make that much of a difference and that I\'ll be a consumer of this product.

Dude they are trying to make gaming even better, why do you always look on the bad side of things?
Is it because they are making it for the xbox?

I hear they can\'t get 5.1 audio to work so maybe they\'re going to make X-box stereos, too.

Out of all the xbox\'s only 1 % is ment to be defective!

Quite frankly, I can\'t see how RCA can significantly improve any game system\'s expierience. This is RCA we\'re talking about, sheesh.;)  Sure they have some decent products on the higher end of the scale, but the majority of their entry-level/afforadble T.V.s are, IMO, junk. I\'m sure this deal will span across most of  their product lines, but I would venture to guess that there will be more of a focus on the lower end.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

The reason we are skeptical is because this sounds like nothing more than a cheap gimmick piled with marketing doubletalk.  Notice that nothing in that statement says the XBox will display video dramatically improved over other consoles using component video cables.  They only say:

Which says to me: dramatically improved over just plugging the XBox into the TV\'s composite video input.  BIG DEAL!  They take the same component video signal standard, put it through a NONSTANDARD cable and connector, and then write up a press release that makes it sound like some revolutionary advancement in technology.  Typical for Microsoft in my opinion.  Who gives a ...

it\'s something new. Ppl will flock to it. I see no harm if it makes it look better than I am fine with it. I don\'t see what the up roar is if you don\'t want it then don\'t buy it.

I dont see this improving the sales of xbox or RCA. It\'s just a gimmick

I\'d rather spend 15 dollars on an Xbox VGA adapter for my Moniter than spend 150 - 1500 on a new TV with some gimicky cableing that can be done with a few braincells and a few dollars.

I don\'t think it will make it look any better than an ordinary component video cable.  It\'s just a different proprietary connector.  Just an excuse for MS to sell you another $29.00 cable, and for RCA to sell you a TV if you\'re dumb.
