Mortal Kombat 5 (just a little stuff for the fans)
« on: January 08, 2002, 11:59:29 PM »
This isn\'t much, but at least it\'s something.  I got this from the MK5.org message boards:

Quote
Mortal Kombat is mentioned in the February 2002 edition of Electronic Gaming Monthly. It made EGM\'s "Slick List", which is a list of the hot stuff in 2002. It even has a quote from Ed Boon himself. On page 137, Mortal Kombat is mentioned in the category, "The Revival of Fighting Games." It reads the following:

"Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 4, the new Mortal Kombat--classic arcade fighter franchises are bursting onto consoles in 2002. And now that home hardware can duplicate an arcade-perfect experience (minus the greasy punk players and sticky floors), why not? Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon thinks it\'s high time for rebirth: "In arcades, we had to concern ourselves with giving the player as much entertainment as possible for his 50 cents. Now we\'re wiping the slate and completely reinventing MK." Cool, we got next game."

It almost sounds like they are doing to fighting games what the Project Ego team is doing to RPGs -- completely reinventing them.  Wouldn\'t it be funny if Mortal Kombat, a game that almost everybody hates, takes the spot of "best fighter of the year"? ;)

This was on the main page of MK5.org (posted Dec 20th)

He kind of looks like a mix between Kabal and no-mask Scorpion.

I\'m really hoping for some in-game pics or movies this month. *crosses fingers*

When was last time we saw a good MK game ? 1993 or something like that ? Everything after MK2 sucks, and I dont belive they will change the gameplay way too much in MK5..... so I guess it will still suck
MM told me to have a 5 line signature. I count now
1
2

I know. but it still shows a possible character in MK5.  And for the MK fans on this board, that\'s better than nothing.

Yeah, Trilogy was my favorite too.  It was pretty buggy and looked thrown together, but do to the amount of guys, it was still my favorite.  MK2 comes in second place.

The guy in the picture is Quan Chi and I also heard a rumor that it\'s just going to be called "Mortal Kombat."  No "Mortal Kombat 5" just "Mortal Kombat."  I think that\'s pretty dull, but MK Advance for GBA is "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3." I know I have that game on SNES.:D

well i hope that they do something new with this game, my fav was mk2, even though i dont like the new ones as in after 2, it still hold a warm place in my heart........hope they make it less arcadey, more moves, more skill, and of course more realistic blood that soaks they players clothes, and some kick ass fatalities!!!

I agree completely.  MK2 was my favorite and despite the rest, news of another gets me excited.

And you\'re right, the reason people don\'t like it is that it hasn\'t changed.  If they do indeed wipe the slate clean and go for a realistic fighter coupled with the MK frills, they could have something.

And the idea of fatalities with graphics like that is definitely tempting, although there\'s only so many ways to rip someone\'s head off...
