Madden 2002 vs. NFL 2K2....
« on: January 14, 2002, 01:13:25 PM »
OK, I hope that this hasn\'t been posted before, but if so, what the hell...

I get a little frustrated with Madden from time to time, and I fondly remember the last NFL game on Genesis to be the best football video game I\'ve played.  Having never owned a Dreamcast, I looked forward to playing 2K2.  Rented it, and all I really have to say is...back to Madden!  This game is too much of an arcade game for me.  Doesn\'t seem to matter about the play you call, just how many tackles you can break by juking and spinning and so on.  This is fun for a couple of games, but not much more in my opinion.  Also, as difficult as passing can be in Madden sometimes, it is really bad in 2k2.  The passing interface has nothing to do with timing, which is how Madden is, and which is realistic.  You just pull your receiver out of the pattern by pushing the analog stick a little...if you like unrealistic passing and a running game dominated by spin moves rather than good blocking, then in my opinion 2k2 is for you...as for me, Madden is more my type of football game...a little disappointed, frankly, by 2k2.

Any thoughts about these two games out there?

HOLY FRIGGIN CRAP THIS IS THE BEST POST EVER!

sorry....but ne who, i liked madden 2001 a lot.  then 2002 comes out and im dissapointed, it is very much a simulation right now, the closest thing you can get to the real thing, but this momemtum thing bores me.  Why did everyone start playing games.  For fun....yea well if you can\'t stop and turn on a dime and deke out your friends to the extreme, then you are not have the fun you should be.  Dont get me wrong, i dig madden, but the game play is just to slow.  Another thing, in NFL 2k2, it might seem easy to deke out and spin away from tackles and make them seem like high school dropouts but just give that diffaculty a tweak and see how easy it is then.

As for timing routes in NFL 2k2, there are very much so them, try some curls and fades.  You just gotta be good  Anyway, the tackles look better and it is fun to see them.  Also the QB scramble is so sweet, just hold down R1 and take off, its so much better than toggleing passers.

I like both games, but for gameplay its NFL 2k2 and for seasons its Madden 2002

I\'d have to go by the magazines and Madden 2002 got an "A" and NFL 2K2 got a "B".  So I half the time I go by magazines...and the mags. usually tell the truth WWF Smackdown! JBI got a "B-" and yes imo it got a "C+" that is not reall the best WWF game but hey there are sequels.

You crack me up. I\'m all about realism, and momentum physics is as real as your going to get. I\'m sorry, but I don\'t want Jerome Bettis being able to cut, spin, and juke like Warrick Dunn or Marshal Faulk. The momentum engine in Madden is what sets it apart from all the other football games. I\'ve played NFL2K2 (for about 45 mins, 1 game) that\'s all I could freakin stand of that game. I\'ve played NFL fever on X-Box  they call that realistic football? No football game can live up to Madden PERIOD.

I\'m sure there are some that won\'t agree, big freakin whoop! It\'s me that has to be satisfied, and Madden satisfies me. Nuff said!
