TAKE-TWO DISPELLS XBOX GTA3 IN MAY RUMOUR

Rumours on the \'net are rife about the hit PS2 game coming to Microsoft\'s console in May, but do they hold water? They\'re leaking like a stuck pig, according to publisher Take-Two

13:53 Sure as eggs are eggs, PS2 owners must be sniggering to themselves in the dark recesses of their bedroom corners when they hear the euphoric cries from owners of other next gen machines about the arrival of GTA 3 on their chosen console. The crime-based smash has been out on Sony\'s box since October 2001, and the nearest sniff any other hardware has had is the news that it will be out on PC in either April or May this year.
Rumours about the imminent arrival of an Xbox version have stemmed from the fact that e-commerce site Amazon.co.uk is allowing you to pre-order Grand Theft Auto 3 for its arrival in May 2002. On Xbox. Apparently. However, according to Take-Two, an Xbox version doesn\'t currently exist in any official form.

"GTA 3 was a massive hit on PlayStation 2, and it seems that people are simply expecting it to appear on other next-generation platforms," a spokesperson for the publisher told us today. "At the moment we\'re concentrating on the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 3, which we\'re aiming to have out in April or May this year." So how about the rumoured Xbox version? "There\'s simply nothing to talk about at this time," the spokesperson said.

While this doesn\'t necessarily mean that GTA 3 won\'t be coming to Xbox at some point, it looks as though Amazon.co.uk\'s date of 31st May 2002 could be a tad optimistic.

Ahh thats to bad,  I\'ve been keeping an eye on this issue.  I\'ve played this game already and its not a big deal but some Xbox gamers is taking it hard.   There is much more AAA titles coming out for the Xbox that looks next generation.  ;)

You know, I\'ve said it before, it\'s not a good game for very long, but you are right, many people are taking it hard.  It\'s the kind of game that I played nonstop for 3 days then slowly started playing it less and less; howled in glee far less often as I pummelled an innocent and very rarely grinned wildly after steeling a ride.  I have not touched it since (2 weeks).  I still pop in MGS2 or Halo from time to time to revel in the coolness of those games, but GTA3 isn\'t cool or fun after you\'ve done it all--and there really isn\'t that much to do.

Anyway, I\'ll get called names for this, but I don\'t think it deserves all this praise or concern over a xbox port.

For every Watchdog who feels this way about GTA3, there are at least a hundred others who still play GTA3 and still have fun.

Does this remind anyone of the rumored CvsSNK3 for the Xbox that was supposedly going to be released a few months after CvsSNK2 for the PS2 was released?  People need to stop trusting "online buying" sites. :)

Oh yeah, that Capcom vs. SNK3 rumor thing. Guess that shot itself down.

Now, I would like to stress that yes, it DIDN\'T say that it is not coming to the Xbox. However, if it is coming to the Xbox, don\'t hold your breath.

As for Watchdog, to each his own. I personally disagree (I think it is one of the greatest games of all time for any console), but that is just me (and many others) as I am certain many people would agree with Watchdog when it comes to the game.

After receiving much inquiries from readers regarding a possible release of Grand Theft Auto III on GameCube, we contacted a Rockstar representative to get the final word on the situation. The representative sited several reports responsible for the propagation of the rumor and indicated there was absolutely no truth to them. Rockstar currently has Xbox and PC versions of GTA3 on the way, but there are no plans for a GameCube port at this time.

It is sad news indeed. Looks like we\'ll have to resort to the traditional real world of thievery and car-jacking.

This is from a reputable gaming source and not cvg which is about as reliable as xbox365.com was.   False rumors are probably to make the PS2 version sell and to sell a few more PS2 consoles.  It makes perfect sense that sony would pay for this information.

I think Microsoft needs to start getting dirty like Sony is.
