To standby or not to standby?
« on: January 24, 2002, 11:39:36 PM »
Im one of those guys that never cuts his pc off, i mean in the year and a half ive owned it, its been runnin 99% of that time.

I see all the goobs on Ign sayin their PS2 has been on standby since launch and other crap that i dont know if i believe, so im gonna ask you guys how you do it.

My situation is i will prob play 1-2 hours a night on a week night, prob skipping a night every now and then, and the weekends will vary, sometimes heavy use, and sometimes not much, depending if im home.

Would i be better off just cuttin it on when i want to play rather than leaving it in standby, or just leave it in standby.

my main thing with standby is, i dont see why it would be bad since it basically shuts down.

thaks for any input, i trust this board alot more on a serious subject like this over the post whores at other boards.
Games Ive Owned:

stand by all the way!

I think ive only turned my ps2 off at the back once since i had it (christmas 2000) and that was by accident.

I dont know why but ive never bothered turning it off even when i move my ps2 to a new tv.

I even leave my games in it when I do this.  i wonder if that is bad?

Bah...... Who cares
what?!? Were you expecting a signature?

I only turn off my PS2 completely when I\'m about to unplug it before moving it to another TV.  It is on Standby probably about 99.9% of the time.

STBY!!!

I\'ve had mine since launch and always leave it in STBY and usually there\'s a disc in in too. Mine is Horizontal (flat).

It\'s the same as your tv being off. In order for remote controls to work (tv, cd, vcr, etc.) the device needs a stby voltage present at the infa-red receiver and maybe a few other places, so basically any piece of electronics that you can turn on with a remote are constantly in STBY mode, just like the PS2.

Those other devices being in STBY don\'t raise any concerns, and neither should leaving your PS2 in STBY:)

I leave mine on standby all the time but id never leave a disk in there because ive hered bad things happen when you turn it back on with a disk in there , anyway i keep my games and system in perfect condition so my games are put away the second i have finished playing

i leave mine on standby all the time, only turn it of when i am not in for more than a day, but when i do turn it off, i take out the game, ive heard sometimes when it powers up , the lens goes too high and scratches the disc.

Not having to reach around the system to the switch on the back is always an upside.
