The Mothman Prophecies and trailers
« on: January 26, 2002, 04:13:35 PM »
I saw the movie The Mothman Prophecies today, and I was very impressed with it.  I enjoy stories like this that depict supernatural occurances in a more subtle, believable fashion.  Rather than using all sorts of wild optical effects and computer graphics to convey the unknown, they do it the old fashioned way.  They used suspense, uncertainty, and confusion to heighten the tension.  It\'s much scarier to hear a character describe something terrifying than it is to actually show the audience some fake CGI sequence using the same visual technology we\'re used to seeing in television commercials.  I also really like Laura Linney, and she plays an interesting character in this film.  I would recommend it to everyone.  What do you all think of it?

Before the film, they ran a trailer for the Resident Evil movie.  At first I didn\'t know what it was, and I thought, hmmm this is interesting.  A deadly virus is released within a top secret lab, etc. ... this story looks sort of like The Andromeda Strain or something, which is cool.  Then I saw some shots with Milla Jovovich, and I thought, wait a minute, I\'ve seen this before.  Overall, it seems like a dumb story, but it could be a good action film.  It all depends... who knows.

They also ran the teaser trailer for Blade 2, and it kicked ass as usual.  I think Wesley Snipes has finally found his perfect franchise.  I\'m looking forward to that one.

Wait, is it actually a good movie? Or were you impressed by it just because it wasn\'t quite as horrible as you originally feared it to be?
Er, excuse me, how much for one of those, uh, prophylactics?..........But I don\'t have a dollar and thirty-five cents!

Yes, The Mothman Prophecies was actually good.  I did not have any lowered expectation about it, and it was still good.

It was like a long version of X-Files. Not a bad movie. Not everyone will like it though. It\'s based on a true story. I remember reading about the movie\'s ending (won\'t spoil it for you guys).

BTW, the true story had "men in black" that were seen in the town of Point Pleasant during the "mothman" sightings. The movie is dated around the present time. The actual event was in 1967.

I read about it (mothman sightings) from those crazy UFO sighting books and stuff back in the 80\'s.
