Ok then, guess i misunderstood.

The PS2 CAN play VCD\'s and mp3\'s if you write a player for it. Anything can be done. It just don\'t support it \'out of the box\'
But even if someone wrote a player and burned it on a disc the PS2 still wouldn\'t play it since it won\'t boot the disc \'cause it\'s a cd-r copy. (but if you had a m0dchip it would boot)
What\'s really intresting is the DVD update player that copies itself on the memory card. If someone could copy that file over to the PC and debug it, they could implement a region selector, since zones are determined in software and not hardware. (that\'s why the Region X works, because it\'s a stand-alone dvd player) And the copy it back to the memory card. The problem is that the file is protected with MagicGate. I really hope Sony releases the Linux kit for the PS2 in the west, \'cause then we could see an explosion of utilities for the PS2 such as mp3 players, vcd and dvd players (multi region) and probably divx players too.. (that could be a little harder)
...just some thoughts....
