Ghettomath\'s CD Recommendation
« on: January 31, 2002, 06:15:45 PM »
BAND:  Thursday
LP TITLE:  "Full Collapse"

I know a lot of people in these forums are not so musically open but Thursday\'s second album was just released two weeks ago and it is all I can listen to.

They produce music that is very hard to define.  If you like groundbreaking and earthshaking you will enjoy Thursday.  The lead singer alternates between softly sung emotional music and periods of strained, animal-like screaming.  Bass is implimented, awesome riffs are implimented, even PIANO is implimented.  It is punk, almost emo (a softer, more "emotional" punk) mixed brutally with the screaming of metal.

If your unsure fire up the modem and try:

"Cross Out the Eyes"
"Paris In Flames"
"Understanding In a Car Crash"

Anyone else have the CD tell these people what they are missing!

well I just downloaded "Cross Out The Eyes" and I can\'t figure out whether I hate it or could tolerate it twice.  But then again I\'m a Birdland kind of guy.

I just downloaded a couple of the songs you recommended.  I like them.  This band is better than many bands that seem to be popular now.  The singer sounds a little like that guy from The Cure, but the rest of the music is nothing like The Cure.  In the song "Understanding in a Car Crash" the lyrics make reference to a Neil Young song.  "The needle and the damage done."  If they like Neil, they\'re ok in my book.

Here\'s one for you folks.  It\'s a band I just found and they\'ve got one album that I dig a lot.

Band: Opeth
Album: Still Life

If you\'re going to download a song from like Audiogalaxy or whatever, I recommend listening to the song Godhead\'s Lament so you can get right to the meat and potatoes of why I dig them.  If I was forced to describe this music, I\'d call it a creepy mix of Death Metal and the Moody Blues.

Hope you like it.

Dolby, you\'re the man.  I didn\'t find "Godhead\'s Lament" but I downloaded "Benighted" and "Face of Melinda" and this sh1t kicks ass.  Excellent musicianship.  I\'m going to buy one of their records soon.

I wish I could contribute something here, but I\'m not sure if any of you would like what I like.  Actually I like so many different kinds of music you probably wouldn\'t believe it.

I do have an idea to try:  Download some songs by Buckethead.  Try the songs "Night of the Slunk" or "Nun Chuka Kata" or "Machete" or something from one of the bands he\'s been in, like Praxis or Cobra Strike.  Good luck finding it... heh heh.

I don\'t want to sound like Mr. Knowitall over here, but yes, Opeth kicks a$$. I have all their albums. I\'f I had to rank them, I\'d probably put them like this:

1. Still Life
2. Blackwater Park
3. Morningrise
4. My arms Your Hearse
5. Orchid

Also, they have a new album on the way which will be two CDs. One will be soft and the other will be hard. I can\'t wait, Good Stuff. :)
Er, excuse me, how much for one of those, uh, prophylactics?..........But I don\'t have a dollar and thirty-five cents!

Hey Core, those songs are great but really, try to find Godhead\'s Lament.  It\'s just one of those songs that sounds BETTER REALLY LOUD!!!  I can\'t get enough of this album and that song in particular.

OPETH RULZ!
