Everyone should own an RGB Scart Lead!
« on: February 01, 2002, 05:38:52 AM »
Hi peeps. After playing my (UK) PS/2 usiung the standard composite video cable and Scart Plug supplied for almost 6 months, I bought an RGB Scart lead at the weekend, and the difference is AMAZING. Playing GTA-3, the character\'s face and features are now crystal clear, the speed dials on GT3 are not fuzzy anymore, colours are more intense, and put simply IT MAKES YOUR GAMES LOOK ****LOADS NICER!
The lead I bought is called the "Ultimate PS/2 Scart Lead" (i.e is third party) which has a switch on the back that turns the output from RGB to composite and vice versa (This is so that you don\'t have to change leads to watch DVD\'s in full colour instead of crappy "playstation2-shag-up-your-viewing-experience-green-screen-pants-technology" (tm).)
So if you want RGB games without the inconvenience of changing leads for dvds, get a switchable cable. The lead I have also has a gun-con port so it\'ll work with Time Crisis okay.  I don\'t know if the sony lead (Official Sony RGB Scart lead) has the switch on it, but I would\'nt buy it anyway - I think its great that Sony effectively stopped me buying their lead for £30 because of the green screen problem, and made me buy what I think is a better lead for £13 from another manufacturer. Me 1, Sony 0. (Or 1-1 if you count me buying the PS/2 deck from them :o)

Oh yeah, if what I said so far didn\'t convince you of the benefits of RGB over composite, this will....

My girlfriend could tell the difference.

I think I\'ll just stick with whatever comes in the box until a true VGA adaptor for the PS2 is released. Scart may be Good, but nothing beats VGA. (Unless you\'re lucky enough to have a good quality HDTV, then I\'d say go with Scart or whatever the better cable is for that.)

AFAIK, there weren\'t any true VGA adaptors out for the PS2... only line doublers. If you do have one, then I guess good job. Everyone who dosen\'t have a HDTV should have one.

yeah it would be simpler as you dont have to load up the dvd region x disc when you want to watch a dvd, but this way you are losing the benefits of the RGB signal. The Blaze scart lead works by switching the signal from an RGB one to a composite signal when you want to watch a dvd.

Hey people, I have a TV with only a composite input.  Mine doesn\'t support s-video or component.  My problem was, when I hook up my ps2 to tv.  The screen is very dark.  Either playing games or dvd movies, the screen is very dark when there is a dark area.  I have to turn up the brightness to nearly all the way to see some area.  I thought it was the tv that is doing the problem.  So, I bring the ps2 outside my living room.  hook it up to my old tv and see if it still do the same.  much to my surprise, the screen is still dark in most area.  Then, my next conclusion was, the AV cable might be defected or something.  So yesterday, I went to bestbuy and bought a $10 composite AV cable and hook it up to my ps2, its still does the same problem.  So, its not the tv\'s fault, not the cable\'s fault, maybe the ps2 output?

So, does anybody here have the same problem with dark screen on their tv where they have to turn up the brightness really high or is there enough brightness in the screen?
And what kind of cable you guys were using.  I think it might also because I use standard RCA cable, that\'s why there aren\'t enough brightness.  I think s-video or component or scart might make some difference.  But I don\'t know since i don\'t have a tv that supports it.  And what should I do?  Thanks.

Paul2 - I have never heard of the problem you describe - has your PS/2 always done it? Cos it might be the deck thats faulty. You could try borrowing/renting a PS/2 and using it on your TV, or try your PS/2 on someone else\'s tv... Other than that advice (which you probably already thought of) theres not much else I can say. Sorry!
