Who will win the NBA dunk contest?
« on: February 01, 2002, 05:10:23 PM »
This year there are four confirmed entrants; Gerald Wallace (Kings), Desmond Mason (Sonics), Steve Francis (Rockets), Jason Richardson (Warriors).  I hope that Wallace wins, because I\'ve been a life long Kings fan, but I think that Richardson will win.  However if any of the big boys enter, ie. Carter, Kobe, or T-mac enter then they\'ll win it hands down.

The problem is that none of those well known players will enter the slam dunk competition.  They are too afraid of looking bad on national television.  They don\'t have the balls to take the chance.  Only rookies enter these things, and therefore I don\'t give a damn.  The NBA has gotten so boring, and this is just another example of it.

I agree, it seems like vince is affraid of Kobe, and vice versa, both of them think they are they best dunker in the NBA, and as long as they don\'t have a direct competition with one another, they can continue to believe they are the best.  i just wish they would grow some balls, remember when it was \'Nique and jordan go\'n at dunk for dunk in the 80\'s, oh those were the days...

No super star is going to risk losing to a rookie, or to another "star". Too much money to be made looking good.

i remember that scoop, windmill that jordan used to do, that stuff is way up on the difficulty meter.  it takes me like 8-10 tries before i can get that one to go, and i can usually pull off a 360 half the time, but then again i\'m only like 5\'8" 180lbs.

If you\'re 5\'8" and you can throw down a windmill dunk, then that hoop ain\'t regulation!

it\'s 10\', but i\'ve been doing plyometrics for 6 years, and leg press over 1200lbs, i don\'t know why my legs are so strong, i guess it\'s gods way of making it up to me because i\'m only 5\'8.

man its seriously one of my dreams in life to be able to dunk...

im frickin 6\'1 and i cant do it. ive been trying my whole life. one time i dunked one of those mini basketballs but ive never been able to do it with a regulation ball. i can get above the rim about to my wrist. its so frickin frustrating.

whats this stuff you say you been doing for 6 years? maybe with that i could get over the hump so to speak.

oops, i meant lycometrics not plyometrics, they\'re exercises to build up explosive strength.  here are a few samples, set up a parking cone, and stand to the side of it, and jump over it to the side and then back to your starting point, over and over again until you can\'t do anymore.  Another is set up a sturdy chair, and stand flat footed infront of it, then explosivly using your calves jump onto the chair, then back down and repeat till failure.  another is called the ice skater, just launch yourself sideways backand fourth(just imagine how ice skaters thrust back and fourth from one leg to the other.  if you want more just ask, these should add at least a couple of inches to your verticle, i\'ve helped one of my friends put about 8 inches on, within a year.
