The Death of Computer Gaming
« on: February 03, 2002, 03:07:22 PM »
This might be a console debate but the PC isnt a console.

PC gaming sucks.  Simply put.  I have not bought a game since Black and White basically because the market for good PC games is very very slim.  The computer game mags i get, get slimmer and slimmer every issue.  All they can seem to fill them with are new mods (proof that the developers are sucking as much out of games that they can) and recommendations for video cards (why should I pay more than 50 dollars to play a damn game).  Im worried.  Because I love the PC.  I love Warcraft, Starcraft, Baldur\'s Gate, Adventure gaming, Age of Empires, but i havent even been interested in purchasing a game.  Thoughts?

I\'m a big FPS fan, but I like RTSs/RPGs as well.
IMO there are certain genres that should stay on consoles, and others that should stay on PCs. FPSs and RTSs should stay on PCS, and genres like racers, fighters, and other genres that require more fast button tapping should stay on consoles.
But PC gaming is far from dead. I recommend Counter-Strike, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Red Faction, Max Payne, Tribes 2, StarCraft, and Diablo 2.

Max Payne

The most boring game EVER MADE and a waste of my time & money ......which is made even worse and longer by the use of bulet time.

can everyone say "MATRIX RIP OFF ?"

Actual proof that you can have a TPS thats like watching virtual paint drying !

also the games so easy to complete its un-real.

you have the ability to save anytime you want, but thats not the clincher..... being able to slow down time and take them head shots is the real killer of the game play on this one.

Hmmm...I guess the people at Wal*Mart accidentally packaged another better game into the Max Payne box, because the game that came in my Max Payne box was CHOCK FULL OF NON-STOP ACTION AND EXCITEMENT! :p

BTW, I also recommend Wizardry 8 to anyone looking for a wholesome, non-Final Fantasy PC RPG.

hell yeah, may payne was a good game, kinda original if you think about it, castle wolf is plain NICE!!  i haven\'t played MOH yet, but i bet its good.  PC leads, IMO, in FPS games, i like to play more on my PC, mouse and keyboard make it easier, and online play is a plus.  also, i have to use PC sometimes, dont i?  consoles rule in all other games, sports, fighting, racing, PC can\'t touch those genres.

I\'m more for console gamming, but I will say that if you haven\'t played "Evil Islands" or "Pool Of Radiance" you are slightly missing out. I hope that the future of gamming brings more games that are as large and engrossing as those I\'ve seen on the computer to consoles gamming. Consoles are great because your not forced into upgrading your hardware just to play a game, and that is one of the best things about \'em. Now that consoles have adopted DVD technology, game as big as 9 gig. will be possible, and that will mean good things for all of us!

I know dude!  Online gaming seems to be the only thing that is keeping computer gaming alive.  Everquest?  Torment?  Quake 3?  Half-life?  I think as soon as some of the consoles start coming packaged with online connections the computer gaming world\'s one-up will die and consoles will take over.
