Microsoft Confirms that BIG Question:
« on: February 06, 2002, 08:14:57 PM »
Everyone wants to know, Will Xbox be able to play games from all countries? Xbox 2K got the answer straight from the source.
This is what mirosoft said......

"No, the NA box will only play NA games. The regional encoding is set when it passes through certification and in to the authorized replicators. NA Xbox systems will only play NTSC games, Japanese boxes will play NTSC-J games and Europe and the rest of the PAL territories will only play games marked with the PAL symbol"

Earlier last year in interviews with the Xbox team they stated that developers would have the choice to decide what kind of Xbox\'s their games will play on. This might mean that developers could make thier games work with all Xbox\'s, or they might have to choose one country.

Xbox 2K, or any gamers did not want this to be the case, we wanted to have the freedom of playing any kind of Xbox game without worring about getting a mod chip, or any kind of add-on to play them.

Well thats to bad... hehe

Ehhh, they\'re just talking about regional coding, same as with any other system.  Or am i missing something?

If it\'s just regional coding I\'m not surprised at all.  The ps2 and gc have it also.

Figures. One extra reason I dislike the Xbox\'s current state. Microsoft promised from day one that the Xbox would not contain regional coding, and now they go back on that word.

GO friggin\' figure.

Well they really can\'t  because copyright laws would be all over them.  Japanese games can put anything in thier games that they want and not pay royalties, bring that over here and that\'s an infringement.

I didn\'t believe it when they said it, and I\'m not surprised now.
Language services three functions. The first is to
communicate ideas. The second is to conceal ideas. The
third is to conceal the absence of ideas.
