The Sega Channel

I don\'t know if any of you ever had the chance to get this. About 8 or 10 years ago the cable company in my area had a Sega channel. It was an adaptor that fit into the cartridge slot of the Sega Genesis. It allowed you to play 50 games for $14.95 a month. You would get 50 new games , or should I say different games each month. I thought this was an excellent idea, to bad it isn\'t available for the systems of today. With the games going for $50.00 a pop, you can spend a lot of money very quickly.

OMG!  A NORMAL POST FROM NPYYZ!

/me blinks in disbelief!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyways, i had  the sega channel in my apartment the whole time it was available and it rocked

50 games was awesome, BUT 3/4 of the games were from the bottom end of the scale, PLUS only 8-10 of them changed each month.  most carried over and never changed

my only complaint was the time it took to load each game
it was only a few minutes, but still it became monotonous

the coolest thing i thought was that the adapter had a flash chip that you could actually save yer game too like a normal cart so yer progress wasnt deleted when you turned the unit off

games would be too large today to pull this off
plus it would be expensive [in theory] cause you would need a hard drive to store the data, WHICH would also lead to piracy as it wouldnt take a great deal to copy the data off the unit

Had the sega channel when I was in Florida and it actually kept me from buying a PSX for over a year. It would be nice if someone could repeat that service.

Sega channel was great. Aaahhh the memories. Yeah, im not sure how that would work with next gen systems but that would be so great. I guess you have to wait a few years at least where prices are a little down and there are more games.
