WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP 2 TECHNOLOGY SPARKLES

Martin Kenwright, head honcho at Evolution Studios gives first, exclusive details of his Sony first-party sequel and it sounds hot

15:35 Martin Kenwright and Evolution Studios are to release a PlayStation 2 technical marvel later this year, if the developer\'s ultra-confident frontman is to be believed. Following our unveiling of the sequel to World Rally Championship yesterday, we snagged first details on the PlayStation 2 title, scheduled to ship this Christmas, from the horse\'s mouth.
"It\'s all part of the long-term plan. When we conceived WRC a couple of years ago it was all part of just building up the Evolution Studios brand," said Kenwright. "From a technology standpoint, we\'ve doubled the amount of objects we can draw and quadrupled the amount of effects. We\'ve been able to draw two to three times further into the distance."

Technology is the name of the game here, and Kenwright is more than confident about facing up to some considerable rally competition towards the end of this year. "It was a bit like a shakedown for the 2002 version," he said. "We know what worked and we know what didn\'t. Instead of sitting on one game for three or four years and getting it right, we\'ve had the luxury of learning from things that could be improved upon and making them a magnitude better. The overall technology, the rendering, the way it all looks and feels is going to be fairly revolutionary... It\'s up there with only a couple of games in the world that are really pushing the envelope on number of polygons per second on PlayStation 2. We\'re probably going to be drawing more polygons than an Xbox game can do."[/i]

New rendering technology will allow incredible levels of realism on the cars themselves, Kenwright added, when combined with professional image-capturing of the various machines. "We\'re gagging to show people, he said. "We\'ve seen competitors games already and they look like WRC. We stopped thinking about that two years ago and we\'re on another planet."

More Power to you, Big Martin. You\'ll get first details and a first look at what should be an astonishing looking game at E3 in May.

so is it Hype BS or do these lads really have something this wonderful to show

yeah I saw tat post

I always withhold my final assumptions to seeing it in motion

and I\'m sure there is some power left under the PS2\'s hood.

The question is wehter enough developers have the resources to really dive in and figure it all out

Personally, I think games these days are becoming too expensive to create. Like, only major power houses with the big $$$ can afford to create AAA titles.

Anyways, I think SONY should really be the one developing different software packages and giving them out to developers for FREE. SONY knows what the PS2 can do, so they should exploit it.

Well.. the PA2 should be out by now.. Im expecting a pretty big jump in graphics from games not developed with PA2 and games developed with PA2..

WRC2 might be the first title to be released that was developed with PA2.
I know the guys at Free Radical have got theirs (as they are talking about it on the PSM2 DVD)

I know they guys who made WRC can program.. WRC looks pretty damn good.
Should be interesting :)

Frankly, WRC was above average, but in no way lived up to the spurious hype that was bestowed upon it, much by a certain......Mr kenwright! Now there\'s a surprise.  Now he\'s doing it for WRC 2.  Oh God.

I wish developers would stop this ultra-hyping products, claiming they can change the face of the world, render 10 trillion polygons etc,.  More than often, the games turn out to be a complete anti-climax.

More realistic objectives, developers.

WRC was ok, nothing special and lacked any real challenge, churning out more of the same with eye candy wont make me part with my money, expecting better things of CM3.

I\'ve played WRC in my PS2 and I can say that it\'s the best gameplay I\'ve ever played in a rally game. The graphics are OK, cars and backgrounds perform perfectly the rally world... not much cars, but they and drivers are official. But it\'s the gameplay what I liked more, almost perfect: control, stability... nice, very nice.

Now, if they tell us that they can do 3x the game better... uhh, that\'s cool...

We\'ll just have to see if it really is true the only way to know is by playing the game when it is released for urselves.

I like the first one, but it is flawed so hopefully theyll sort it all out for the second one (not just improve the graphics)
