SONY - Slow down in production????
« on: February 21, 2002, 07:05:54 AM »
A friend of mine just bought a PS2 with his tax return check.  He needed a memory card so we went to my favorite game store to purchase one, but there were none to be found.  The guy at the store said that Sony was behind in production and that nobody had any memory cards.  I thought this was a little strange so we left to try and get one somewhere else....

NOBODY HAD ANYTHING!!!!

Target, Wallmart, K-Mart, Blockbuster, Rhino.....  We went to all of these places and found nothing!!!

We finaly found a Nyco card at a less known rental store in a strip-mall.

Does anyone know what is going on with Sony????  Why are they so behind???
THERE ARE NO ORDINARY MOMENTS...

Sold out everywhere due to demand? I don\'t know. I\'ve been hearing the same story since Christmas.

Late last year Sony decided to no longer give third-parties license to make PS2 memory cards, even though the official card vastly outsells the off brands.

???????

Maybe an underhanded attempt to create demand for the hard drive? Something\'s fishy...

Maybe it was because 3rd parties were making crappy memory cards, and Sony didn\'t want anything out that could crap up the console war.

There is nothing worse than playing a game for hours and hours only to find that the p.o.s. of an off brand memory card just went on the fritz and you loose all your saved data! I buy only Sony stuff just to be safe.

Last I heard Sony was 3 months behind in memory card production.  But that was way back in early January.  You would think they would have fixed the problem by now.

Early January I hopped in to my local Circuit City and POW!  There were 20 or so memory cards.  Never had a problem here in Georgia.

Hmm, well I talked to a clerk at babbages not to long ago and he said that Sony seemed to be speeding up quite well on production and that there shouldn\'t be any shortages or anything like that.

I know it\'s better to be safe than sorry... but that\'s just a waste of money that could be put to buy games. I have used nothing but third-party stuff since the early days of my Genesis, to my 64, now with my PS2 probably saved over a hundred dollars because of it, and have never encountered a single problem.
