Anyone Playing Halo Online?
« on: February 25, 2002, 09:15:15 AM »
My friend bought an xbox back on launch day and we played through halo as that was the only game he liked at the time - and me too - then he got NBA Live 2002 - and he liked that but he found he was bored already with both and there was nothing appealing to him - hes hard to please but i do agree right now its kinda lacking

so we deicided lets get halo online it will make our day and all - so we went out and got what we thought we needed and after a few returns to the store since my friend is stupid lol we got everything together and started playing halo online - let me tell ya - its bad ass **** - and the best part since i have a cable modem and he doesnt he is leaving his xbox at my house from now on - so i get a free xbox and two games till he moves out to his dorm for college next semester

but i was wondering if anyone else plays and if so - lets meet up on gamespy and ill take you down :p

>"What extra hardware you need to play online?"

You have to have a Broadband Internet connection and a very powerfull computer.. even more powerfull depending on how many players you have at once playing..

Your better off playing a PC game online instead.. more selection and much cheaper

not really my pc is powerful but not that powerful

mainly this is all you need - a good broadband connection with about 250k for each player - 2 people would be 500k and so on - thats for no lag

also you need a ethernet hub to split the connection so your xbox will be on the same network as your pc

also dl the gamespy arcade and gamespy tunnel

you can find em here http://www.gamespyarcade.com/download/ - click the free trial at the bottom or here http://www.gamespyarcade.com/support/tunnel_xbox.shtml

thats about it - you dont have to pay anything if you dont register to gamespy

there are other ways besides hubs but i found that to be the cheapest and easiest way

i have a

1000mhz P3
256ram
gladiac 920 video card
60 gig

its custom built - all your computer needs is a fast internet connection and you are ok - its not like its running halo on your computer - you still gotta run off your tv and the xbox

all this program does it makes it think that there are xboxs linked together right next to each other

this is all thats required. . .

What is required?

In order to use the GameSpy Tunnel you will need:

-GameSpy Arcade Software
-GameSpy Tunnel Software

This application must be installed for the "Xbox" service to appear in GameSpy Arcade.

-A Microsoft Xbox console
-A supported game (see below)
-A FAST broadband connection. You will need at least 128kbps upstream bandwidth for most games, although Halo can require up to 256kbps upstream bandwidth per player in the game. If your connection is not fast enough you WILL experience lag and connection loss problems. No modem support is available or planned.
-A supported network configuration. Most types of home networks are supported. Basically you just need to be able to plug your Xbox into the same LAN as your computer is on.

no sadly no co op - as it has to be done with the system link in the mutli player

although you can do co-op deathmatch by using teams and all the other games like ctf and more if you want

but to me its pretty fun either way to play someone besides my friends and its even funner to play someone across the country with your friend sitting next to you

although sometimes you get your ass spanked lol

Sublimesjg, great to hear you like Halo online. It\'s been around a while on gamespy.    Lot\'s of people are making team names.   Since I got my Xbox, I\'ve not gone on line yet.  Since you have your friends Xbox, try and rent one of these games, Wreckless, NBA Inside Drive, NFL Fever, Blood Wake, DOA3.   I\'m having a blast with these games.   Have you seen the games I\'ve posted in my topic?   The Capcom Mech game will own big time when its out.  :D

To each their own, but to tell you the truth, I wouldn\'t care if they never release a keyboard for xbox.  Sure you\'d get added control but who wants to have a keyboard in their livingroom?  The pad is fine so long as everyone uses one--when only some people do and others don\'t, that\'s when it becomes a problem.
