Final Fantasy XI release date, pricing
[02.26.02] » Square\'s second big gamble hits shelves -- and the Internet -- this April in Japan.

After three months of beta testing, it seems Square is finally happy enough with the progress on its ambitious, online-only RPG, Final Fantasy XI, to announce a firm release date. April 27th will bring the world of Vana\'diel to the masses at a initial price of 6800 yen (about $50 USD) for the packaged game.

Once they get online, gamers will be able to enjoy a two month subscription to PlayOnline and unlimited play of Final Fantasy XI, after which a 500 yen per month (or roughly $3.75 USD) fee will apply.

I thought the game was going to be cheaper than that, to accomidate the cost of playing online!  Well, hopefully the price will drop soon enough.  You know thoses crazy Japanese, always paying more for trendy stuff.

I haven\'t kept up...do you need the hdd/modem add-on to play?  Can you buy the modem seperately?  How much will the end cost be?

Nothing\'s definate for the US market yet.  Last time I checked, both the HDD and the modem were required.

March... This can\'t be simultaneous North American/Japan release then, can it?  I would really like to see some of the numbers surrounding the HDD/Ether combo - they must have some idea....

They prolly didn\'t call it Final Fantasy Online, cause if it\'s really successfull they will want to make more, and it\'s better to just have have them inside the number series.

$3.75, I have to assume this is the price to just play FFXI.  I was hoping that the online thing would be a service and that all games would be included.  Does anyone know how it is going to work?  That would suck if you had to pay about 4 bucks for each game you play online.

it could be something like this for the payment of playing FF11

Just my lil opinion :)
I think Shadowbane will be the next big MMORPG, not FFXI. It seems to be just so much more original.
MM told me to have a 5 line signature. I count now
1
2
and 5th line there it is :)

I\'m Confused...

So when do we expect this in the US???
\"In the last 12 months 100,000 private sector jobs have been lost and yet you\'ve created 30,000 public sector jobs. Prime Minister, you cannot carry on forever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecidented engorgement of the unproductive bit. You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt.\" - Daniel Hannan
