i dont know if it used in america, but where does the phrase "bobs your uncle" come from??????


any ideas???? i mean to read it it means nothing else but, that bob is your uncle, so how does it means something else??



i can only think that, one time a girl met a boy, they were dating, girl take boy (bob) to see her parents, she never knew her dad, but as it turned out her boyfriend ( bob) is actually, her dads bro, so " bobs your uncle"

The only phrase here in the US that comes close is "what about Bob?"

Never heard of the phrase "Bobs your uncle".:yawn:

I have an uncle Bob.
His last name is Smith.
He was named after his father.

Back to the subject - I\'ve never heard any expression about "Bob\'s your uncle"  Must be a brit thing.  Like bollocks, and shopping trolleys.

I also have an uncle named Bob.  That phrase is not used in the US, so I can\'t comment on it\'s origin.  You British people have some weird idioms, let me tell you.

I like the word "chuffed". As in: "I just got a great new game, and am absolutely chuffed with it!"

I also liked it in the show "Red Dwarf" when the guy said "smeg" all the time instead of sh!t or F*ck...

Smeg refers to the unclean "build-up" of "matrial" that men get if they don\'t wash their little soilder ;)
