So I\'m in the market for a digital camera.  No more than $800.  I\'m currently leaning towards the Sony Mavica CDR.  Anybody have a better suggestion?

Well, it depends on entirely what you are looking for.
Are you going to be taking ALOT of pictures?
Do you want a really high quality(35mm equivalent 8x10\'s)?
How important is ease of use?
What kind of zoom are you looking for?
My personal suggestion would be the olympus c4040zoom.
It is a 4.1 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom.
Very nice camera.
Only downside is that you have to buy a card(i recommend a 128 MB card), and the batteries dont last long.(buy the monster rechargable batteries(39.99).
With the card and the batteries, the camera will cost around 850-900.
The downside to the son MVCCD200 is that to erase photos from the disk you have to actually do it on your computer.
You cant erase them in your camera.
Also the picture quality is only 2.1 megapixels.
I also dont like the manual priority modes on the sony. They arnt as flexible as the olympus.
The olympus is also smaller.
If you want to take ALOT of photos, and will not edit them much, and wont blow them up, then go with the sony.
If you want editable photos, and wont be taking more then 40 pictures at a time then go with the Olympus.
Shop at Circuit City.

I really like my Sony DSC-S75 (should be about 550 now)
I think they have the DSC-S80 out now..
they are great cameras, top quality pictures

Only letdown is the sony memory stick... but if you gonna spend that much its not a big deal

I have the Olympus 3030.  Now it is the 3040.  Great camera.  3.3 megapixel.  Batteries, well I have two sets of rechargeables, just the ones you can buy anywhere.  I think they were about 8-10 bucks for a 4 pack.  I went all day on one set.  Then just switched.  Worked well.  I used it to shoot on our set all day long so the batteries got a workout.  Averaged 60 pics a day.  

You can get these cameras for about 500 bucks now.  I have printouts that you would have a very tough time figuring out they are digital.

You can buy a wideangle for these cameras as well, but be advised that you can\'t use the built in flash with the wide angle for it creates a monster shadow.

Oh yeah, you need an extra card.  At HQ I get 81 pictures on a 64 meg card.  These are like 2040X1400 or something around that.  Plenty big enough.  At the highest quality tiff you get I think 7 pics.  But you are hard pressed to see the difference in quality for the sheer size.

Yeah, the c3030zoom(3040) is an amazing camera.
One of my all time favs.
Not only can you get a wide angle lens, but also a 2x telephoto adapter as well(available at your local Circuit City).
Reason I recommended the 4040 was that it has the higher megapixel and the newer OS(menu system).
So much easier to learn.

Video, if you ever start having problems with your batteries, then pick up the monster set. They work great.(Also available at CC).

Thanks for all your imput.  I\'ll be "window shopping" tomorrow, and I\'ll make sure to give a close look to the ones y\'all mentioned.

I\'m looking for a camera of at least 2 megapixel, that can store a lot of high-resolution pics, and has as long a battery life I can get.  Also I want a nice zoom lense, I can\'t stand digital zoom.  Most the pictures will stay on the computer, but I want them to look good when they print as well, I know that depends on the printer too, but one step at a time!

That\'s the site I always go to. Excellent reviews.

I\'m waiting for the digital cameras to have larger buffer memory for burst shots. So far, a $2000 camera can take about 4 burst shots while it stores the first one into the memory card. After that....well....you gotta wait. Most digital cameras you gotta wait about a second or more before you can take another shot.
