List the best Dreamcast games
« on: March 03, 2002, 11:41:50 AM »
I was at the mall yesterday. I stopped by my two favorite stores, Software etc. and Electronics Boutique. I noticed that most Dreamcast games are selling at very low prices. $4.99 to $19.99 This was for new games as well as used. I was wondering if any of you would like to post some of your favorite DC games as a type of guide for which ones I should buy. Thanks for any info.

NPYYZ, I just bought Zombie Revenge used only for $7.00 for my kids and there are lots of textures and it\'s a fun game.   The Dreamcast is a fine system I\'m picking up more games.  :D

Lots... of... textures? Oh whatever :p

Of the ones I\'ve played :
Skies of Arcadia
SoulCalibur
Grandia 2
and Shenmue 1 & 2
kick major butt. I only got really excited about the whole Shenmue-thingy on disc 4 of the second game, and now I can\'t wait to see more!

I wanna get more DC games too... too bad there are no stores in our town that even know what a DC is... grr...

Sonic Adventure (Avoid Sonic Adventure 2 though..It looks gorgeous but has way to many boring levels..)
Soul Calibur
Phantasy Star Online
Skies of Arcadia
Jet Grind Radio
Cannon Spike
Marvel Vs Capcom 2
Street Fighter 3 : Third Strike
MDK 2
House of the Dead 2
Typing of the Dead  ( ;) )
Shenmue 1 & 2
Virtua Fighter 3
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
NFL2K1
Hydro Thunder
Grandia 2 (Not that crappy PS2 port!)

Those are just off the top of my head, I am sure I can look through my games and come up with some more.

:D

Shenmue I
Shenmue II (althoguh you will have to import it, it is WELL worth it)
Grandia II (great RPG with a crappy ending)
Skies of Arcadia (one of the best RPGs of the last 3 years)
Virtua Tennis
Sonic Adventure
Rayman 2
MDK2
Virtua Fighter 3tb (only for the fans, I suppose)
SOul Calibur (overrated, but still fun)
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (quite possibly the best game ever)
NHL2K2 (best hockey game since ESPN hockey tonight on Sega CD)
Rush 2049 (multiplayer is GREAT fun)
Test Drive Le Mans (one the best looking and playing racers to date)
F355 (look above, not for the weak of heart, though)
Phantasy Star Online (worth the 20 bucks even if you don\'t go online with it)
NBA2K2 and NFL2K2 (self explanatory)
Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram (only if you can find the sticks)
Quake III Arena
Unreal Tourney

excuse me if I left any out.

Sega Rally 2 is pretty good, but it\'s to damn hard:mad: .  Has anybody else played it, and if so, did you have a  hard time with it.

Sega Rally 2 kicked my ass!!  It was so much more difficult than the first...

I wasn\'t very pleased with Sega Rally 2 on DC...framerate issues.

Anyway, the DC classics are...

*=highly recommened

*Shenmue
*Sonic Adventure 1 & 2
*Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2 (if you have PS2, get that version, it provides more of a challenge)
Sega GT
Chu Chu Rocket
Samba De Amigo
Space Channel 5
*Daytona USA
Test Drive Le Mans
*MDK 2
Virtua Fighter 3TB
*Soul Calibur
Unreal Tournament
Rayman 2
Toy Commander
Ecco (if you want a real challenge, this will drive you to insanity)
Outtrigger
Virtual On 2
*Jet Grind Radio
Resident Evil:CV

That\'s all I can think of off the top of my head...

Hey, anyone ever try OogaBooga??

Shenmue 1 & 2 - \'Nuff said...

Grandia 2 - RPGs mostly suck but this was awesome, Altered is right, the ending sucks...

PSO - If you can avoid hackers and cheaters, this is way fun...

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 - better 2-D action than SF...

Power Stone 2 - 4 players, simple action, lots of fun...

Resident Evil: C:V - I don\'t know if its better than the PS2 version...

Sega Swirl - Fun, simple puzzler...
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

VIRTUAL ON: ORATORIO TANGRAM OWNZ J00 ALL!!!

:D :D :D

And AlteredBeast, you silly something or other, VO:OT plays just fine with the normal DC pad. Unless you\'re a hardcore Cypher fan... Controlling it in its plane mode is a pain unless you have the Twin Sticks.

... Eh, speaking of VO. Anybody hear about VO4? Last I heard, it was 70 somethin\' percent done and was gonna hit the arcades soon.

Damned.. I hate getting to a post late. Ah well.. it\'s just NYPPZ with another diversion tactic. So instead of scouring the net for all the "best of" \'s on the DC.. I\'ll just list what I have and what I want.

Vigalante 8: 2nd offence:  Ok game. Nothing special.

Carrier: Lotta people liked it. I hate it. A pox on Survival Horror and Adventure games.

House of the Dead 2: Good game unless you own a light gun. Then it\'s a classic DC shooter.

Ecco the Dolphin: Awesome title, beautiful, challenging.

Metropolis Street Racer: Hate the Kudo\'s system.. but it\'s original.

Crazy Taxi: A bit shallow, but hey.. it\'s an arcade game.. and a damned fun one at that.

Quake III: One of the best FPS\'s available for console. Better get a keyboard and mouse if you don\'t like being pulp. BBA support too!

Seaman: Not a game, but an experiance. The originality alone makes it worth playing through once... if not owning.

Alien Front Online: Looks as good if not better than a good deal of the PS2 games out. Fun as hell too, expecially with online voice chat.

Soul Calibur: Best, Fighter, Available.

Airforce Delta: Great game, even if it is a Ace Combat ripoff. Least Konami got the formula right. (*Still bastardises the A10 though!*)

PSO v.1 & v.2: Most addicting console game ever. Diablo with a
Phantasy Star theme. Offline sucks, but online (sans the cheaters) is one of the best gaming experiences I\'ve ever had.

Jet Grind Radio: Original, Fun, Solid, Stylish, and innovative.

Sonic Adventure: An good game, and a must own for the DC just because it\'s a Sonic title. 10x better than Crash & Mario combined IMO.

Shenmue: Excellent Adventure-lite for console gamers. Not for everyone. For what it sets out to do, it does wonderfully. Rich, detailed world on a level never before seen on a console. Graphics are amazing.. on par with Xbox IMO, minus Bump mapping and a few polygons.

Capcom vs. SNK: Best 2d fighter series on console.

Sega\'s Sports titles are almost all top notch, and built very solidly. Not as "SIMish" as some of EA\'s titles, but more fun. They\'re online also, which puts them head an shoulders above anything else out there on console IMO. A few good RPG\'s are Skies of Arcadia, Record of Lodoss war, and Grandia II. If you can read japaneese, you can\'t go wrong with the Sakura Wars Boxed Set.

Don\'t get PSO though. Or at least, don\'t let me find you on PSO. I *DO* own a gameshark, and although I don\'t believe in cheating online I\'ll make a special exception in your case. If I see you, you\'re ass is NOL.

I would post something for you to use when you go out and buy some DC games but I think that those ahead of me made the point clear.
