I never saw MDK2 in action. Eventhough it\'s old, still a great read. ;)

>"BioWare really sounds like n00b developers in this article.. All they talk about is the VRAM while the others seem to have overcome this problem.
Lazy ass PC developer"

I talked to a guy on IRC, he goes to a school here in Sweden specific for Game development and such.

They had a Criterion guy there a few weeks ago.
They talked about their Renderware middleware, and which games used it GTA3, BurNout, Airblade ect)..

The Criterion guy seemed very excited about PS2. They started talking about the EE and how it worked (especially the Vector Units) and what could be done with them.

Pretty cool, I wish I\'d been there :)

Seven: My pleasure.. I enjoy reading these types of articles. :nerd:

But I\'m guessing you\'re not a software programmer, so I wouldn\'t expect you to understand. ;)

You\'re right! When PS3 will be released...PS2 will have still "untapped power"...

...and what are Criterion achieving with PS2 ?

Sure it will.. Not alot like it has now but some.
Just like the PSX has.. There is always something you can improve to make it run better.

Wow... wish I\'d been there too. I also had a great time chatting to two of the developers at Cambridge Studios I while back. Pretty interesting stuff. Especially those interactions between a digital cam and the PS2. Would be cool to see these things in-game. :nerd:

Ive heard about that.
Would be sweet if they made a StarWars lightsaber game. Sony has alot of talented 1st/2nd party developers..

I think Sony has the best 1st/2nd party devs of all the 3 companies. MS last of course :)

That\'s why "some" people bash the Game of the Year Halo because it runs at 30 fps at launch? Speaking non-sense about UMA when the simple PSX has still some untapped power after 5 years from launch ?  Could we try to be a bit more coherent...fastson? :)

Thanks fastson, a good read. Unfortunately it only goes to show there are none so blind as those who will not see.

Ginko should have noticed four of the people being interviewed have been working on the PS2 extensively and hold a solid grasp on the design and one developer rep (from BioWare) whose team had begun working on PS2 recently and was more or less using the standard PC approach to develop on it. Since the article is not very recent we can see the result of BioWares fairly brief effort at porting MDK2. Isn\'t ironic how the developer who understands the hardware least would also claim to be pushing it to its limits. Compounding the irony, Ginko chooses to lift from the interview only BioWare\'s rather limited view and efforts as proof of PS2s power having been nearly tapped out.

Ah well, fastson\'s sig says it best

Those are extremely old...and yah, if they squeezed everything the PS2 had for MDK2:A then I\'m seriously unimpressed...The DC version was slightly superior with textures, and the PS2 version had framerate problems...

Most likely do to port, but none the less...

I would like you to point out where I implied the PS2\'s power being tapped out...

And also, I was just commenting on their efforts...not the PS2.

PS2 is gonna peak soon if it hasn\'t already...

This quote and the long arguement we had in the other thread obviously expresses quite well what you think of the PS2\'s hardware. Just that these interviews here pretty much contradict your arguement, that\'s all.

Its like saying PS2 was maxed with GTA3 just because it had some slowdowns.. Or Red Faction.
Its about code optimisation..

Im pretty disappointed with Nintendo so far. I was expecting a little more.. (Sure there is Pikmin, SSBM, SWRL2 ect ect.)
But Im more impressed with Sony 1st/2nd party right now.
GT3, ICO, J&D, WipeOut ect.

There are still some games to be announced for Sony as well as Nintendo. (Ive looked at a list of Sony 1st/2nd party developers and there are quite a few that haven’t announced any titles, ie. DogFish.. ex. Bullfrog developers.)

We will see if my opinion has changed after E3 :)

That arguement was purely for fun...I saw the opportunity for a debate ( which you do quite well;) ), so I took full advantage.

I may like my Xbox more than my PS2, but that doesn\'t make me stupid...
