Sorry fastson, I guess I should have said that it\'s "going to be" overhyped. After the success of GT3 (both graphically, gameplay wise,  and commecially).. to say that it\'s sequel is going to "blow your mind" is a bit far fetched. The human brain is a much more powerful graphics workhorse than the PS2 is.. and without pics I think people\'s imaginations will run away with them.. which leads to dissapointment.

I saw the same thing happen with Shenmue, and see it happening with Xbox\'s Project Ego. The concept and ideas sound good, and I\'m sure Ego will be a pretty reveloutionary console game like Shenmue was.... but neither one of them can live up to the hype that surrounded them. The power just isn\'t there, in ANY commecial computer/gaming system for THAT level of gameplay. The point is.. with only good impressions and no media to back it up, a lot of people will let their imaginations get the best of them.

If I\'m wrong, at least I\'m in for a pleasant surprise though. :D

I\'m glad GT4 is the last GT game on PS2. Don\'t get me wrong I\'m still in awed with GT3 but what i really want to see is the incredible GT3 engine being applied to a different genre of games.

There\'s so much possibility there!!

fatson: PS3 will be out in less than 4 years time, guaranteed. No way does the PS2 have 6 years life left in it

GT3 bored the hell out of me. I got to about 30% (did all the arcade) and couldn\'t be bothered with the rest :(

I hope GT4 is better :) Since playing GTA3, I never play any other car game :D Although I\'m waiting for Colin McRae 3, and maybe RalliSport if I can afford a lauch Xbox. Rally games are more fun IMO
Playing: GTA3 (96%) - Pro Evo Soccer
Wanted: HALO - MGS2 - JSRF - VF4 - FFX - SC2 - PROJECT EGO - TS2

No..
The main processor for PS3, the Cell processor wont be ready for mass production until 2005.
We say its ready at early 2005. That means the PS3 will launch in late 2005 maybe early 2006 in Japan. (we say late 2005 just for the record)..
That means the European and American models will launch maybe 6 months later. In 2006.
Thats 5 years.

Would people have expected the PSX to live for 6 almost 7 years when it was only 2 years old? No.
PSX is going to continue to live for another few years.

PS2 will live a long time as well. Especially if it will have these types of quality titles throughout its lifespan so Sony wont need to release a new console that early.

I love GT,and can\'t wait for GT4...but I don\'t expect notable improvements in the graphics department and about GT3 using 25% of PS2,I think it\'s BS...and I hope polyphony will use most of the remaining power for physics,collision-system and damage on cars.

Well, I think 2005 is the closest date for PS3, that is unless the PS2 does extremely GOOD or extremely BAD.

From what I have heard, its looking at a 2005 release date. As for GT4, It will supposedly coincide with the Broadband and HDD releases (mainstream).

According to granturismo.com, GT4 hs been slated by SONY for a Christmas/Jan/Feb 2002/03 launch in Japan...

This is possible, considering GT3 was released in April 2001 in Japan.... Thats almost 2 years between games...

I asked a developer about the 25% number. He said it was pretty accurate (he has been using PA2 for some time)..

Is that graphics or physics or both? I am confused as to how you could get a number like 25%. Also, do you think that IF GT3 ran at 30fps instead of 60, that they could populate the environments twice over, like, twice the amount of detail???

I\'m pretty sure the PA2 analyses the total and not just graphics so I\'d say both and everything else :)
Fastson, set the record straight mate.

That 25% number reports on the overall performance still left. That includes bandwidth (how much more data can be streamed through), of the vector units and rendering bandwidths.

I have also spoken to some developer and that the numbers are pretty accurate.

I remember when they said Rage Racer used 100% of the PSOne. Dont they just say this way too often ? Dont underestimate the power of PS2 and the developers.
MM told me to have a 5 line signature. I count now
1
2
and 5th line there it is :)

You don\'t know what happens behind the scenes...some dev are biased as hell...

I wanna believe only what I see...the END

seven,mm opened a new Thread under my demand...and I know you were one of those who expressed interest in a hardware-based forum...

Why don\'t you spend a bit of time even there? :)

well, it\'s all up to the developers and always will. That Rage Racer estimate of 100% wasn\'t very accurate and they didn\'t have tool that messures the data going through the severall bandwidths of the hardware as they do now on PS2. This tool has the potential to help developers tell where they can sqeeze some more data through.

Just on a side note:
game-engine fully maxed out does NOT EQUAL hardware fully maxed out
