Wrestlemania 18 Tonight: Hogan vs Rock
« on: March 17, 2002, 06:39:19 AM »
Aside from the default "wrestling is [negative adjective]" replies, I was interested in who was getting the PPV and who you might think will win.

Here\'s the card and my picks...

(Possible for Heat)
Scotty, Albert, Rikishi vs Test, Mr. Perfect, Lance Storm
Scotty, Albert, Rikishi (to hype up the crowd)

Euro Title
Christian vs. DDP
Tough to call, my guess is Christian regains the title to set up a feud with DDP for awhile.

Kane vs. Angle
I\'m not sure what has kept this feud going, but I look for Angle to come on top.

Booker T vs Edge
I look for hometown favorite Edge to pull out the win in what should be a pretty fun match to watch.

Woman\'s Title
Lita vs Jazz vs Trish
Even though Trish is Canadian, I think it might be Lita\'s time to shine.  Still, I\'ll go with the unexpected and say Jazz will retain.

Tag Title
Chuck, Billy vs Hardys vs APA vs Dudleys
Who knows, I predict everyone goes hard to try and beat past Wrestlemania tag matches, but in the end Billy and Chuck sneak the victory.

Intercontinental Title
RVD vs Regal
It\'s time to start pushing RVD hard again, I see him going over Regal in a great match, brass knucks or not.

No DQ Match
Undertaker vs Ric Flair
The Taker is undefeated at Wrestlemania and while conventional wisdom might suggest they\'ll put Flair over just because, I think Flair is too old and will go down bloody to the Taker.  Taker is going to make it 10-0.

Stone Cold vs Scott Hall
Well, you know Kevin Nash has to do something, so I expect him to come down during what should be a great match to give Scott Hall the assist and the win.

WWF Title
HHH vs Jericho
I really, really want Jericho to retain here, but it just won\'t happen.  HHH will get his revenge on everyone, even putting Stephanie through an announcers table in dramatic fashion.

The Rock vs Hulk Hogan
The real winners here are the fans.  These two can play to the crowd like no other and this match should be a blast to watch.  I look for Rock to come out on top, hopefully in a clean manner.  Who knows, though, with the nWo and their knack for screwing up main events.  We\'ll see!

I\'ll disagree on this one.  DDP has the better angle and character going for him.

Kane vs. Angle

I agree, Angle has solidified himself as a main eventer, losing to someone like kane who is already past his prime would drag him down. Angle is too popular(ok unpopular) at the moment to drop this match.

Booker T vs Edge

Again, I will agree.  Booker T just doesn\'t belong in this division.  This match is one of the less desirable, but surely Edge will win.

Lita vs Jazz vs Trish
Even though Trish is Canadian, I think it might be Lita\'s time to shine.  Still, I\'ll go with the unexpected and say Jazz will retain.

I disagree.  I never really liked Lita, but her chances look pretty good.  Trish is purely eye candy, she doesn\'t know how to wrestle that well.

Tag Title
Chuck, Billy vs Hardys vs APA vs Dudleys
Who knows, I predict everyone goes hard to try and beat past Wrestlemania tag matches, but in the end Billy and Chuck sneak the victory.

I agree.  How can I go against my favorite wrestler.  Chuck and Billy have risen to the top over the past few months, even though their gimmick is kinda strange.  They\'ve finally been accepted by the fans, and the wins will keep rolling in.

Intercontinental Title
RVD vs Regal
It\'s time to start pushing RVD hard again, I see him going over Regal in a great match, brass knucks or not.

Definite win for RVD here as Eik said.  It seems right to put someone like RVD in World Title matches, but IC title, i see a clean cut win for RVD.

Quote

No DQ Match
Undertaker vs Ric Flair
The Taker is undefeated at Wrestlemania and while conventional wisdom might suggest they\'ll put Flair over just because, I think Flair is too old and will go down bloody to the Taker.  Taker is going to make it 10-0.

Wow, that\'s an interesting fact Eik.  I will agree aswell.  Plain and simple there is no way they can have Flair without some MAJOR interference.  I see Taker walking all over Flair.

Quote

Stone Cold vs Scott Hall
Well, you know Kevin Nash has to do something, so I expect him to come down during what should be a great match to give Scott Hall the assist and the win.

Well said, and I thought I\'d be the only one expecting Scott Hall to win.  Great match none the less.  I expect this to be better than Rock/Hogan.

Quote

WWF Title
HHH vs Jericho
I really, really want Jericho to retain here, but it just won\'t happen.  HHH will get his revenge on everyone, even putting Stephanie through an announcers table in dramatic fashion.

I must disagree with you here.  It\'s HHH\'s time to shine.  Jericho has been great as a champion, but he needs a rest.  He\'s worn out his bad guy image and needs to pass the torch to Trips until KOTR.

We\'ll see![/B]

I\'ll say Hogan the winner.  It\'s the more reasonable thing to happen.  The rock has a good 10 years ahead of him, Hogan is very much nearing the end.  I say it as a tribute to Hogan that\'ll he\'ll come out on top, in a very AMERICAN fashion.

I believe they added a Hardcore title Match to the card:  MAven (c) VS Golddust.   I see the 24/7 rule used in this one and alot more superstars getting
into it.   Maven might sqeak this one out tho.......

HHH will win, he\'s waY to powerfull backstage, to lose at WM.  And the Rock will win because Hogan got the better of him on Monday.  The thing that annoys me about this match is it\'s dubbed, as being the match to crown the best ever wrestler.  The Rock is at the top of his game and Hogan is almost 50, I guess this means if I punch Muhammad Ali in the face and knock him out, it makes me the best boxer of all time.

w00t!  4-4 (not counting HC title)

So far:

RVD pinned Regal w/ 5 Star Splash (New IC Champ)

DDP pinned Christian w/ Diamond Cutter (Retains Euro title)

Kurt Angle pinned Kane via rope leverage.

Taker pinned Flair w/ damn bloody mess!

BTW, Right now The Hurricane is the Hardcore champ.  First was Spike Dudley, then the fight ensued and Hurricane ran off.

Yes. Then Rock and Hogan held hands and pranced together in a field of flowers.

damn seems like some people here have some disturbing gay fanatsies.

as for Hogan, I\'m glad to see him take a face turn, but then again it could just be another angle, and Hogan will turn on the Rock tomarrow.

God damn!  That was unreal.  Hogan and Rock tore the friggin house down.  Everything else ruled, too; awesome PPV.  Let\'s see how I did.

more spoilers

-Scotty, Albert, Rikishi (to hype up the crowd)-
Got it :)

-Christian-
Nope...

-I\'m not sure what has kept this feud going, but I look for Angle to come on top.-
I\'m still not entirely sure, but I was right.

-Edge-
Guessed it.  Billy I disagree with you, Booker is a great wrestler.  He\'s entertaining too, what with the spinning and the facials.  Booker/Benoit Best of Seven, need I say more?

-Still, I\'ll go with the unexpected and say Jazz will retain.-
Gotcha on this one, Billy.  Now we\'re even since you guessed the Euro match.

-Billy and Chuck sneak the victory-
They did, and it was a pretty good match, too. Everyone got their spots.  Farooq\'s spinebuster to the floor was evil.

-RVD-
They don\'t call him Mr. Pay-Per-View for nothing!

-I think Flair is too old and will go down bloody to the Taker.  Taker is going to make it 10-0.-
Right on both counts.  Taker even counted all ten fingers and raised his hands in victory at the end.  That ruled because every finger stood for another fallen superstar.  Decade of destruction is right. :)  (I always loved the Dead Man)

-Scott Hall-
Surprise, surprise, the nWo got shut out!

-HHH-
At least he got to hit Stephanie, though I still wish Jericho won.

-The real winners here are the fans.  These two can play to the crowd like no other and this match should be a blast to watch.  I look for Rock to come out on top, hopefully in a clean manner.-

The fans sure did win.  Those two played the crowd like you wouldn\'t believe.  Stellar match with the post-celebration taking the cake.  New feud set up and seeing Hogan and Rock leave up the ramp together was crazy.  Passing the torch, indeed.  People will always remember that match.

Fantastic PPV, imo.  I\'m looking forward to see where they start heading on Raw.  There\'s that "extension" happening soon and The Outsiders have some fighting to do.  Should be good, as long as Steph stays out of the picture for the most part.
