Anyone working w/ post production?
« on: March 21, 2002, 07:59:56 AM »
I was just wondering if anyone here is working in the post production field. I\'d like to work with that some time, but I\'m not quite sure how to \'get into it\' so to speak.

So if you are, how did you get into the business? And what do you work with (software etc.)? Thanks. :)

Hi,

I am in the video production field. I own my own company with a friend.

We do all our work now on the pc.

We shoot in MiniDV and edit with Premiere 6. I use a lot of Lightwave 3D in my work and of course PhotoShop. We capture using our footage using a Canopus board and then we output to a number of different formats.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Well, I guess I am.  I produce two shows for a cable network.

Lots to give advice about, but I just ended a long shoot week.  Just shot 4 full shows in 4 days.  Went well though.  Good to be done, I could definitely say that.

Thanks for the input guys. Even though I had hoped more people would be able to respond. ;)

I\'d like to play around a bit with Discreet Inferno, but unfortunatly I don\'t own a Silicon Graphics machine... or hundreds of thousands of dollars. It\'s definatly one of the best systems for visual effects and post production (like wire removal, rotoscobing, matting, keying, color correction, tracking and the works). I guess I\'ll just have to stick to Adobe After Effects and PhotoShop for now. :)

After effects is one of the best programs out there to learn on.  Discreet Combustion is also good.  Discreet runs in 3D space and version 2 has more partical effects and such in it.

To edit with, Discreet Edit 5 is pretty good for Windows NT.  You can\'t do much compositing so you have to do all that with After Effects though.

Not everyone can learn on a Flame or an Inferno.
