Some friends of mine were driving home one day from work when a van hit them directly on the driver side. My friend in the driver seat has a limp from the fact that they had to sergicaly fuse his ankle together, and his girlfriend in the passenger seat has a steal rod in her left arm and a plate in her head. The company that owned the van lost 1.8 million in the settlement to my friends. It was discovered in court that the driver was dialing his home phone number at the time of the accident. No large amount of money is worth the pain they went through.

HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!

P.S.: My favorite bumper sticker is the one that says…

I wonder if you would drive better with that phone up you’re a$$?

I drive better "legally" drunk than most a-holes do sober.

It\'s all about individual skill. That\'s why I am so opposed to blanket laws (like DWI).

A fool eating a cheeseburger can kill you JUST AS QUICK as a fool who\'s drunk. Period.

OTOH, a very good driver who obeys the traffic signals and rules of the road, even after some drinks, could be far less dangerous than a ditz putting on makeup or a dude picking his nose.

It\'s all relative.

Each accident case should stand or fall on the individual merits and circumstances.

....Not to mention sleepy drivers....

the link\'s right to a certain degree...

I too consider cellphone as a big "distraction" when I drive.  A while back i was using my uncle\'s cellphone and I hold the cellphone with my chunk and my shoulder while shifting.  Aweful position which can can deadly (that\'s the last time I ever use cellphone while driving.)

lucky that I didn\'t get into any accident or some sort, but with my head in a 45% with my shoulder I could get into some serious deliema.....

That study is so pointless.  Most of the danger of driving drunk doesn\'t come from reaction time, but from impared judgement.  You don;t end up ramming into a telephone pole going well over the speed limit because your reactions suck.

I once was driving while drunk, talking on my cell phone, while eating some special brownies, and disciplining the neighbor\'s kids while shaving and setting up a business meeting via my palm pilot.  I ended up fine and dandy, but I feel just a little sorry for that dog I hit. . . and that old woman. . .  and that crossing guard. . .  ah. . . whatever.

I had my Jetta totaled by some rich little 19 yr old debutant biatch chatting on her phone one morning in the not so distant past.... Ooops- red light & blasts me with her daddy\'s Excursion @ 35 mph into a mini van.
:(
Now, I make my $ from wireless sales, so don\'t get me wrong I love mobile phones- they\'re a great time saving tool. But how much time do you save when you\'re stuck on the side of the road trying to talk your way out of a court appearence?
