Any chemists in here?
« on: March 27, 2002, 05:56:39 PM »
ok this might sound like an easy question.......and it probably is.

I\'ve just realized i havent been paying much attention this year and i have a lab due tomorrow.

K, what the question deals with is molarity ( moles per litre )

k if i have a given molarity of a substance for example 6ml of 0.01 M leadII nitrate, and i add 4ml of water to it. what is my new molarity?

thanks in advance.:)

ok first you gotta go from mL to L

so instead of 6 mL you have .006 L

the formula for molarity is moles/liter

take

.01/.006 and make an equation

so then you make a new equation to set it equal to.  Add 4 ml (.004 L)

(.006 + .004 = .010

x/.010

set them equal

(.01/.006) = (x/.010)

just solve now.

Or just write in .006 M if you\'re too lazy to do all that :)

Speaking of chemistry, I have a question for you chem buffs. Autoliv\'s MSDS sheets say that the chemicals my family is working around mildly iritating and nothing more. I was just wondering if there are any serious hazards associated with these chemicals...

Otto Bock M 800 V US M
:Monoethanolamine Carbamate (Less than 5%)
:Ethylene Glycol (Upper Bound 10%)

Otto Bock W-800 V-Isocyanate
:4,4\'-Diphenylmethane Diisocyanate (MDI) 49%
:2,4\'-Diphenylmethane Diisocyanate (MDI) 24%
:Higher Oligomers of MDI 16%

ACMOSOL 130-11
:Solvent Naptha <70%
:N-Methyl-pyrrolidone <25%
:2-Butanole <5%
:Non-Toxic Ingredients <5%

ACMOSOL 133-10
:N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone < 95%
:Ethanole < 2%
:Non-Toxic Ingredients > 5%

ACMOSIL 36-9295W
:Naphtha Hydrotreated Heavy >50%
:Alkanes C11-C15-Iso >10%
:Similar Alkanes C10-C13 (No % given)
:Water >20%

Lemmie know if there is any more information you might need, and I\'ll post it as well. I know some of this stuff is dangerous, since they\'ve already had one person die from an alergic reaction to it. I was just wondering how dangerous it is when exposed to it in long term conditions, and if there are any major side effects of the chemicals or combinations of these chemicals not found in the MSDS\'s.
