What do you want to see in your new games?
« on: April 04, 2002, 05:47:01 PM »
It\'s been a topic of many threads lately; what would you, the consumer, like to see in a future videogame? What abilities has each console failed to take advantage of? What are some good ways of utilizing these abilities? And finally, what can be done to existing genres to make them better?

As an RPG fan, most of my ideas revolve around stuff that comes from that genre. I have always imagined a fighting game where you can build a fighter from scratch: look, fighting style, attributes, and hey, even a background. This is one reason I love WWF games so much. But what about online play? You could go to a virtual gym where you can work out with other players, maybe even practice bouts. You can earn money in tournaments to purchase equipment, like a treadmill for training or stronger gloves, or whatever.

This is just a fantasy of mine. I know that SFA3 came close, but that didn\'t satisfy my desire. I dunno to much about the technical capiblilites of each system, so I\'m hoping for some good responses. :)

No matter what type of game i would like to see a story mode/story that gets you hooked, not just in RPGs.  Top notch music play could work in horror games and of course more interaction with the envirment.  In fighting games, everything should be breakable, it would make the experince more fun to play and watch.

I would also like to see whole seasons of NHL, MLB, NBA, NFL etc. online with other human players, that would be so much fun.  You talk about fantasy sports, what if you pay to play in tournaments online and a cash prize is recieved at the end.  Now thats what im talking about.   Very good topic Tom

Could you imagine the RE remake having the same soundtrack as the movie? That would be so cool. I would love to throw my opponent out a skyscraper window, then jump onto his body from the 10th story. Or beat \'em silly with a fire hose. Those were some good points.

I\'d like to work my way up a roster to win the heavyweight wrestling title from my region. Then take on all challengers who were stupid enough to try me.

I\'d like to see totally open enviroments in most games, you can then do what you are supposed to be doin, or mess about a la GTA3. Games susch as MGS2 with different story paths would be good to, multiple endings depending on what you do in the game.

I never even thought about the timer in most games. I wonder how we would take advantage of that. It would be pretty amusing to take hourly trips to the barber, thats for sure.

A racer that combines GT3 realism with nice fast cars (Lotus Esprit would have to be in it :) ) with great racing (especially narrow) tracks. There\'s nothing like driving up the mountains with a fast Audi RS4 here in Switzerland... what an experience!

I would like to see a game that takes full advantage over what the sound field has offering it. I mean, a title that fully takes advantage over Dolby Surround II (That is the new format they are making, no?) and has positional audio that perfectly suits the game. I believe audio over the years has taken a back seat when it comes to games, but I believe it\'s a heavy understatement. Music and sound play a strong role in many games, such as FPS, racers, and fighting games to name a few.

I didn\'t know how much I was missing when I hooked up my Dreamcast to my friends threatre system (or surround sound system). Daytona rocked on that, I could hear cars coming from the left on the left channel, and not some muffled up crap on a standard T.V. I fell so in love with positional surround sound, that I hooked up my Creative DTT 2500 5.1 Dolby Digital setup right into my T.V. and it has been "happy time" for me when I play my DC.
You think positive, I\'ll think realistic.

I want more games based on the genre that Yu Suzuki dubbed "F.R.E.E.".. used in Shenmue.

Living worlds with a high interaction factor are awesome.
