Final Fantasy Xi Drives A Hard Bargain

Here is some more news on getting conected. What will it be like where you live?

FINAL FANTASY XI DRIVES A HARD BARGAIN

Japanese gamers wanting to share Square\'s online experience have to face a final reality, first they\'ve got to get the hard drive.

18:07 It looks set to be the massive multiplayer experience to turn Japan on to online gaming in a big way, but its going to cost them big too. You see, Final Fantasy XI is set to be unplayable without the PlayStation 2\'s hard drive.
The pre-order facility for FFXI in Japan is now up and running, with the game set for release on May 16th, priced at 7800 yen (£41). It costs an additional 1,300 Yen (£7) per month to play online. The game can then be played either by downloading to the hard-drive through a 56k modem, or by streaming using PlayStation Broadband. However, the PS2 needs the HDD anyway, to connect to broadband. Whichever way you look at it, Japanese gamers are going to need to get one, so you can add another £100 to the till receipt.
Of course, in Japan Final Fantasy X came packaged with the HDD, so its likely most FF fans out there will already be set-up ready for the next online instalment. They will also be able to buy a PS2 bundled with hard drive and broadband for around £200.
The big question is how it\'s all going to work over here. Sony have yet to announce any plans for the PS2\'s UK broadband connectivity, so we\'re going to have to see whether it ends up being an online dream or a costly Farcical Fantasy.

Damn, they got a lot of breaks in Japan.. or at least it must seem that way to them, cause the cost is spread out.

If I have to buy a BBA, HDD, and FFXI in the same week, it\'ll kill my savings!  I hope they figure out a way to stream without a HDD, or bring out \'cheap-retro\' 5 gig HDDs.

That’s what I want to know, why the heck wasn’t there an option to purchase the HDD with FFX for us here living States side. There may be no real use for a hard drive now but I love cool chit like that. I want it, and I want it now d*mnit! They are also talking about FFXII already. What the hell is that all about. Can somebody fill me in…

Okay, I feel better now.:D

I just wish I had BBD, I unforunetly can\'t bring myself to pay 50-60 bucks a month for it.  And without it, I have to kiss ps2 online gaming goodbye.
