SSX Tricky - HELP!
« on: April 18, 2002, 08:42:29 AM »
Hi - I bought SSX tricky yesterday (never played SSX) and am having a really hard time with the controls - I\'m used to THPS3, and this is quite a change.

When I\'m in the air, and use the d-pad to do a trick, if my character is going to crash and I try and correct the move, very little happens, yet if I switch to the analogue stick he moves almost as free as you like.

Surely you don\'t have to use BOTH the d-pad AND analogue stick???

Maybe my pad is broke, maybe I am the worst SSX player ever, but can someone please explain the basic controls to me - timing as well.  Thanks!

I should add that my d-pad seems to work okay - I mean all the directions work - I can do front/back flips, left and right all on the d-pad but i can\'t seem to move my skater around in the air much with it, wheras on the stick it seems a lot better.

How do experts play Tricky? Dpad or analogue. Why?

Don\'t worry about patronising me just give me the dirt. Thank you!!!!

Well, I dont know how much different SSX tricky is from SSX, but to do any tricks, you use the shoulder buttons in various orders.. the more buttons you use in the combos, the more points you are awarded.  If you get high enough jumps, you can complete tricks while adding a flip by pushing down on the analog sticks.  Now I havent played in awhile, but I dont think you have to hit any buttons to complete a trick.  I will check on that tonight for you though.

Use the stick to steer and the d-pad to do tricks.   Tricks are much easier with the d-pad and steering is easier with the stick so I switch between the two.  Been doing since SSX so it\'s easy now.

Go to the tutorial section to work on tricks.  When racing one can be as fast just sliding down the hill.

what you need to do isgo into the options and change the controller setting (think u have to change it to pro)....this way you contol the man with the anouluge stick, plus can prewind tricks, also balance on a grind, the pad is used to do late flips, spins etc, also changes stance when grinding!!!

also to do tricks use the shoulder buttos, the sstick is used only to do flips etc

I think its easier to steer with the analog but you cant flip with it as far as I know.

Is it me? Or does PSone own all the other systems?

So am I right thinking that you CAN\'T play SSX tricky using just the pad or just the stick - you have to use both for best performance????

Not sure I\'ll get used to that, but I\'m already in love with the game!

Can someone just spell it out once and for all -

like:

Say what moves CAN ONLY be done with one or the other - like steering can be done on both, but to push start you MUST use the stick etc...

Like somebody else said, change the settings to pro for control...I logged countless hours on SSX, and couldn\'t play Tricky at first b/c of this.  Pro control allows you to use the analog stick for all control of your character.  This is how I always play every game...I rarely use the D-pad for anything in any game.  With this as the setting, you can play the game without ever once touching the D-pad, and you\'ll be OK.  I only use the pad to rotate my board when I\'m on rails, so that I can have the board sideways...easier to grind the whole length of them like this.  Hope this helps.

Thats great, thanks I\'ll try that tonight.  Jumping from pad/stick and  back was getting annoying!  I\'ll let you know how I get on, hopefully I\'ll get on better.
