I think that\'s really sweet that you don\'t want to break up their friendship.  My advice: Go to your ex and tell her that you\'d like to date her friend.  She might say that it\'d be ok with her.  Just tell her to let her know.  (Like most people who have responded earlier, she can\'t do anything about what you do with your life anymore.)
She can ponder that thought, analyze it, talk it over with that friend, whatever.  It would probably give your ex some time to talk to her friend and establish some kind of agreement that they will continue to be friends even if that friend decides to date you.

This scenario would be especially good if you could manage to keep one angry with you. We all know that when they’re mad at you the put out the best. I still say that to have the best of both worlds is better than only one.
