EA brings new James Bond game, NightFire, to next-generation consoles.

May 09, 2002 - Electronic Arts announced this morning that it is in development with the next videogame installment of Ian Fleming\'s special agent spy series. James Bond 007: NightFire, a 3D first-person shooter, will ship for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox and PC in time for the holidays, according to the company.
Unlike many former EA Bond games, which are based on a single 007 movie license, NightFire features a completely original storyline written exclusively for the game. The title, which borrows elements from more than 40 years of Bond\'s legacy, will take players through the snowy Austrian Alps, into the underwater depths of the South Pacific and even aboard space stations above the Earth\'s atmosphere as Bond does battle with the criminal mastermind Rafael Drake, the head of a mysterious environmental corporation seeking world domination.

UK developer Eurocom Entertainment, which created the N64 The World is Not Enough, is behind the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox versions of NightFire, and Gearbox Software is dedicated to the PC incarnation. NightFire is primarily a first-person shooter complete with both action and stealth elements, exotic locales, beautiful women, a wide arsenal of weapons, spy gadgetry and spy craft, but a third-person view is also used for specific puzzle areas and to show off 007\'s good looks during the in-game cut-scenes.

The console versions of the game will highlight exclusive driving experiences created by the Need for Speed team, and will incorporate such classic cars as the Aston Martin Vanquish -- fully decked out for spying purposes, of course. The PC version, meanwhile, will boast exclusive single-player levels and a more robust multiplayer option.

The title will challenge players to determine when to go out blasting, when to use special spy craft to accomplish goals and when to play it sneaky through 10 exotic locations, serving up detailed 3D environments and truly next-generation graphics. The game will also draw upon the last 40 years for a cast of villains and allies that will be both familiar and completely new to players.

NightFire has been in development with Eurocom and Gearbox for a considerable amount of time and will be unveiled for the first time -- for various platforms, at the Electronics Entertainment Exposition 2002, which begins in Los Angeles, California, in less than two weeks. IGN will be there to bring you the full scoop on all of the different versions and we think you\'ll be pleasantly surprised with Bond\'s return.

Stay tuned for more on this exciting shooter

I must admit, I\'m not all that excited over new bond games... after all, there\'s been not a single gem since goldeneye.  But hey, I\'m happy to give a dev a chance....

*EDIT* I always see the same thread after I post the news... and I always check first!!  arrgh!

I only play bond for multi-player. So if this one gets back to the 007 formula I\'ll be rushing to the store very soon to get gc and 4 controllers.

And AUF was ok multi-player not as good as 007 but ok. And I don\'t like a single fps on ps2. It may because it only has two ports and you really can\'t have multi-player fun with two ports.

should go out and buy a multi-tap or ps2 should have four ports I guess:confused:
